I absolutely love this book light. It is true that it can be scratched fairly easy but that doesn't make reading difficult at all. There is a wheel that adjusts the level of light. If you don't have the wheel adjusted properly then the light will flicker. My husband took his to Afghanistan with him and I have one at home. My eldest daughter loves this booklight to read by at night. The light is very soft and doesn't strain the eyes like many book lights. I have tried 4 different booklights thru the years, and this is by far my favorite. And when not in use it makes an excellent bookmark. I bought this in early 2009 and the batteries are still going strong today.

The size of the plastic sheet the light flows through is fine for a paperback but not large enough for a regular book. Lighting is very uneven with the right edge being quite bright while the left edge (away from the light source) is quite dim. I returned this item as it just didn't perform as advertised.

I purchased this item despite the reviews. It is virtually unusable with the swirls of light making the book you are reading difficult to read.

Perhaps I received a defective product, but when laid flat on the page, the flat panel has very distracting wavy rainbow lines. It renders the light virtually useless!

Doesn't cover a whole page or enough of the page to read smoothly. It is hard to use and lights unevenly. What a waste of money! I would like to have known in advance the exact measurements of the "viewing area". Also, it scratches very easily and it's virtually impossible to avoid fingerprints while trying to maneuver it over the page. It works a little better on paperbacks, but not on a full sized page.

I purchased this to use during longer plane flights, where light is a problem and I have found regular book lights to be less than ideal. This works really well - doesn't bother other people but does a nice job of making reading easy. A good buy

The light is not very bright,the panel has wavy colored lines in it when you lay it down flat which makes it hard to read, not very impressive.

This Verilux nighttime reading light works very well at illuminating the entire page, reducing eye strain, and adding just the right amount of light where needed.

this gadget is really cool. it lights up alot. u wont need more light than that. its awesome for a book but not for the kindle.

OK for a night reading light but you have to hold it a certain way to not get a glare. Smudges easy. Not sure if it was worth the money, but its ok.
