Book Description

*Completed Series*

Sixteen-year-old Perdita Rivers has spent her entire sheltered life being told what to do. Lately, she’s felt ready for a change, and the universe seems to agree. Her new best friend’s brother is the boy of Perdita’s dreams. Literally.

Even though he plays hot and cold, she’s sure there’s more to it, but she’s kind of distracted by the sense she’s being followed - not to mention the rumours of wild animal sightings that seem to mean more to her new crush’s family than they should. Perdy’s on a mission to find the truth, but maybe the truth is the danger she should hide from, after all.

Complete Cursed Series:
1. Verity
2. Clarity
2.5 Adversity
3. Purity

4.0 out of 5 stars Great start to a new series! May 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Everything in Perdita's little Irish town has been mellow, if not boring, for as long as she remembers... She's had the same best friend for years, her grandmother and father have fought like cats and dogs ever since she can remember, and she's always been the outcast or social freak at school. Yet for all the lack of action and excitement, her father has always kept a protective eye on her and a tight reign on her activities. Don't go out after dark, don't wear anything to draw attention to yourself, and no boys allowed! Those are the rules that have been set. Well, those and countless more...

During her sixteenth year, things finally start to shift... A new family moves to town, her best friend is more like a heartless stranger, and Perdy is finding her voice. She finds new companionship in the form of Amelia, the younger sister of the mysteriously luscious and literally dreamy Nathan. Her father loosens his grip a wee bit, allowing newfound freedom and experiences. Perdita also learns that, sometimes, outward appearances are not always what they seem and reality really is based on mythology and fairy tales.

My overall impression of Verity is that it is a fantastic start to a new series! Perdita's circumstances and home life shaped a vulnerable girl who is on the cusp of discovering her greatness. She's a gentle girl with a pure heart - a lovely creation. Amelia, Tammie, and Joey (her friends) provided an interesting dynamic, each personality was vastly different yet grounded. Nathan - ah Nathan - was a complex and surprisingly compassionate character. The prologue was told in his voice. It was the only time his point of view was offered in the story, but what a great tidbit it was.

I appreciated the story not coming to a neat and tidy end... I must admit, I am completely bated and ready to be cast into the second installment of this series. I have a feeling many more secrets will be revealed in #2 and that they will only add to the depth of the tale!

Ms. Farrell - excellent job! Two thumbs up! :o)

5.0 out of 5 stars VERITY June 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wow. I loved this book, first of all.

Perdita is a quiet girl who usually flies under the radar at her school in Dublin, Ireland. She has two friends at school. Tammie is very out there and pretty much obsessed with her cousin and other friend, Joey.

The story starts out where Perdy stands up to her father and grandmother, who are always fighting over how she should act and dress. Her Gran wants her to be a second edition of her mother, who left when Perdy was a baby, unable to handle the responsibility of being a mother. Her dad wants her to be the complete opposite of her mother. He is super protective and dictates every little thing about her life. She stands up for herself and tells them to back off. And, this time, they listen.

Enjoying her new freedom, the character development is evident and progesses at a believable pace, not an all-out change from wallflower to outgoing. She stands up for the new girl, Amelia, thus making a new friend. Later, she finds out the boy she's been dreaming about the past couple years is Amelia's brother, Nathan.

*sigh* I love Nathan. He plays a very hot and cold character, always getting close to Perdita, then acting like a total stranger. I won't say why because of spoilers, but the reason he does this makes me all girly girly and blushing it's so sweet and romantic.

Some parts made me cringe, mainly antics of Tammie, who I thoroughly dislike now. But most parts made me laugh and sigh. I even cried once near the the end. This story has it all. (:

Can't wait for the next one!
PLEASE. READ. IT. <333

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special June 17, 2011
By V. Do
Format:Kindle Edition
I tried to like this book (or ebook, rather) because of the two positive reviews above but I just can't. The prologue is great (that's why I gave it two stars). I loved it but it goes downhill from there. The plot is predictable. The conversations are just trite. There is nothing much to the protagonists (though I've seen only one. I stopped half way or so through the thing). There is the typical good girl main character and there's the bitchy popular girl who's picking on the new kid.
**Spoiler?**
There's a scene in the book where the bitchy popular girl picks on the new kid and the main character shouts at the popular girl and the popular girl says "excuse me?" and the main character replies "something wrong with your hearing?" I hardly think it's laughable, so the fact that the whole cafeteria laughs at her supposedly witty remark is not exactly believable.
**End of spoiler**

That said, the main female is supposed to be the good, sheltered girl but the way she speaks annoys me. And she curses and complains too much. Maybe it's just me but I like a strong, optimistic female and not one who complains about her life because it sucks. Yeah, I know it sucks. Now live with your life, show me your strength. Show me you're not defeated by the circumstances.
