Product Description

As an alternative to PC Cards or ExpressCards, the Verizon Wireless USB720 EV-DO Rev A USB Modem has been developed to be compatible with all devices supporting a Type A USB port, including desktops, notebooks, tablet PCs, and PDAs. In addition to this expanded compatibility, the USB720 has some amazing features such as increased upload and download speeds, VZAccess Manager capability, a high performance flip-up antenna, an LED service status indicator, a compact and lightweight design that allows maximum convenience for wireless mobility, and more. Other features include Windows Vista compatibility (as well as 2000 and XP) and Mac OS X compatibility (10.3.9 or higher).

Stay Connected
The USB720 is compatible with Verizon's BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess high-speed wireless data access plans. That means you can get the broadband-like speed you require to work efficiently outside the office.

A Verizon BroadbandAccess plan will give you the freedom to stay productive and connected whether you're on the road or in a meeting across town with broadband-like connection speeds. You will also receive NationalAccess service when outside the BroadbandAccess rate and coverage area. NationalAccess is available in thousands of cities and towns.

The NationalAccess plan is Verizon Wireless' national wireless Internet service, which enables users to access the Internet, email, attachments, and business applications with a laptop at average speeds of 60-80 kbps and bursts up to 144 kbps (you may experience slower data speeds).

Before checkout be sure to choose one of the previously mentioned Verizon wireless data plans to enjoy Unlimited access for Internet browsing, email, and Intranet access. Chose a plan that's right for you. Without a specified Verizon data plan, data service will be charged at 0.25 cents a minute.

Card Design and Features
The USB720 comes with VZAccess Manager software for easy connection management right out of the box. Easy to install and use, the card features a high performance, flip-up antenna for increased speed and coverage allowing you to easily connect from the comforts of your favorite coffee shop, in a board meeting, or on your sofa at home. The card's intuitive user interface is easy to manage while the bright service state LED indicator lets you know signal availability and data transfer status at a glance. There's even an optional external Antenna Connector (sold separately) for times when you need to boost connectivity.

VZAccess Manager is a new customizable tool that lets you manage remote access needs across the country. VZAccess Manager, developed by Verizon Wireless in conjunction with one of its parent companies, Vodafone, is available for BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess wireless PC cards, and Mobile Office Kits. It allows mobile professionals, business, and enterprise customers to easily access Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess and NationalAccess services, and their own Wi-Fi and dial-up networks so that they can stay connected wherever they go.

VZAccess Manager is easy to use and simplifies wireless remote access allowing users to stay connected to business-critical email, company databases, files and the Internet while mobile. VZAccess Manager is ideal for information technology managers who seek to deploy a remote access solution that is easy for their employees to use with minimum support requirements.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product October 29, 2007
Few things with any mobile carrier actually work as advertised. This one does. The speed of the Rev A network even with a relatively weak signal is very fast and rivals wifi connections. If you're sick of paying for wifi access fees and want something that works just about anywhere in every computer you own, look no further.

In fact latency times are so low that I can use remote desktop and other applications that require a fast response time. It's just as fast as its PC card equivalent and gives you the flexibility to use it on any PC.

The best part of the entire deal for me is the Mac compatibility. It works great on my Mac Book (even in Leopard) and was a breeze to install.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product From Verizon January 21, 2008
This card functions perfectly for me. My average speed is between 800-1000kbps Down and 400-500kbps Up. I live in a very remote area and this is the only available High-Speed Option. This Card is somewhat larger than other Verizon USB Models but I like the Signal indicators on the front and the telescoping antenna(Doesn't help much though). Verizon is the only company to offer EVDO Rev. A Coverage in my area so I went with them. Verizon has a 5GB Download limit per month so this is something to consider if you are a heavy downloader. I have heard much better things about Sprint so if they offer Rev. A speeds in your area I would go with them.

All in All very happy w/ this Card(UM150) and Service(Verizon)

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! Love it!! December 28, 2007

I love this product. I live in a rural area, but my connection is good and is 95% of the time very fast. So much better than my old dial up, plus with my laptop, I can use it anywhere. One hint, use the double USB connector that comes with it. The connector really speeded up the connection for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faster than any other cellular Internet access card March 11, 2008
By DrZ
My CIO and CEO are happy with Verizon's USB720 and USB150, stating that their Internet browsing experience using these gadgets doesn't differ from when they are on our network or at home using their personal DSL.

Verizon's EVDO cell Internet access service with all the various cards we have is apparently MUCH faster than most of the other cell phone networks (except Sprint which is also EVDO and as fast). I have been using Verizon's PC5740 card for years and it was slower but still comparable to my 3 Mbps DSL ISP access at home.

We also have several other cards by other providers and their internet access is so slow it's dysfunctional. To name a few, T-Mobile - my GC89 usually connecting at horribly slow 100 Kbps; my fellow IT Director stating that his older T-Mobile card is as slow, if not worse; Other users at our organization confirmed that using AT&T card was slow as well, so if you need speedy mobile Internet access, go EVDO (Verizon or Sprint) and avoid GPRS/EDGE (T-Mobile & AT&T). I had a bad experience with their customer service in the past and bought a T-Mobile card when we needed another one, but the horribly slow speed of other cell ISP providers made me change my mind. I'm buying Verizon again because their cell PC cards' internet access seems to be an order of magnitude faster than most of other providers.

Blazing speed. Go for it.

Although speed is impressive (as high as 1.1 mbps) on my PC, Speeds hover in the 2-300k range on my MAC. Interestingly, when I run the card on the MAC using Fusion to use the card running Windows XP on the MAC, it speeds up. I've seen comments on the Web that there appears to be a bug in downloaded versions of MAC's Leopard operating system 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 that results in the slow performance. Some MAC users report that it worked perfectly before updating their software. And in some cases, re-installing the operating system from a CD seems to fix the bug. So far, I have not been able to resolve the issue and will be trying to re-install the operating system. It's dissapointing because the main reason I bought a USB card was to have plug-and-play connectivity for both my work PC (Laptop) and home PC (MAC)

PLEASE NOTE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED BY OS UPDATE - WORKS FANTASTICALLY NOW!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rev. A rocks! December 28, 2007
Verified Purchase
This thing works just as advertised. So far I have used this on Windows XP, Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5 without any problems. The USB connection is very handy since you can connect to virtually any computer made in recent years. Installing the software was a breeze, but I did noticed software updates will come out often and not always be detected, so I would recommend visiting [...] to get the lastest version.
Speeds with Rev A. are noticeably faster than the older Verizon Broadband card. I'm in the South Florida region and have not found a spot where Rev. A is not available. The monthly fee is definitely worth the freedom of having fast internet connection virtually anywhere.

I'm using Vz Access with the USB 720 and have found it to be fast and fairly dependable. Verizon gave me 30 days to decide if I wanted to keep the modem and sign up for the plan. In the end, I decided it's nice to cut the cord and be able to use my laptops anywhere I want to work.

This is an external card that connects via the USB port and I have swapped it between a four year old Dell laptop and a six month old Gateway laptop, both run XP. The USB connector looks fragile. I signed a two year agreement, and I have serious doubts that the card is going to make it to the end of the contract. However, in the four months I've owned it I've given it a few accidental knocks and it hasn't snapped off.

There have been a couple of issues that required a call to tech support. I was very happy to reach domestic centers on both occasions. After bad experiences with Sony tech support compounding the aggravation of technical problems with language and cultural barriers, domestic tech support is high on my priority list.

The monthly fee is $59.99 for virtually unlimited access; 5G a month should be plenty for browsing and email. Tack on about another $20/month to your bill just for the taxes and junk fees. My monthly phone bill, with another carrier, suffers from the same type of surcharge inflation.

Highly recommended for laptop owners who want to cut the cord. If you use your laptop in the same spot every day - go with a cheaper DSL service.
