Book Description

#1 Amazon Bestseller - Supernatural

CAN YOU BARGAIN WITH THE DEAD?
"Sometimes the terror is in what is not said..."

The world of Adrian Bolt shattered as his wife lay butchered on the floor of Castle Verliege. His conviction by a German court was as swift as the sword that killed her. He maintained his silence knowing his story would not be believed. Though his reputation was impeccable there was nobody willing to stand for him.

Another world lay in wait for anyone living within the walls of the castle; waiting, watching for eternity to keep the Mueller name upon its registers. There is only one world here for those who choose to stay. To enter its doors...is an invitation into the unknown!

From the Author

There is nothing more challenging than writing a story about a place, or places that do not exist. Except for a few elements, the history of the castle does not exist. This castle is a combination of several castles that I laid out in my mind and built the walls within my memory. Every room, hallway, dining room, bedroom and fixture were all designed as the book was written.

What unearthly presence will greet you as you enter the master's bedroom, or follow you down the centuries old stairs. The spirits within Castle Verliege  have an agenda that will not be denied. They do not wait in the recesses of the shadows for the time when all will be theirs again.

Fate plays a hand in all we do. Castle Verliege's ghostly residents are no different. These spirits wait patiently for the one who has come to fulfill the prophecy. The ghost of Edmund is the keeper of the secret of the nine. If you are wise you will not seek the answer to the secret of the nine. With the frailties of the human psyche we all know that sooner or later you will give in to temptation.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Much More Than Just A Ghost Story!!! September 1, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I haven't read a good ghost story in a long time. I'm excited to say I finally found one in VERLIEGE by Micheal Rivers, but don't be fooled, it's so much more than that!

The first part of this novel is told by Adrian Bolt to his doctor James Pellitere. Adrian is accused of killing his wife and refuses to not only tell his side of the story, but to talk at all until he meets James.

The tale he tells is beyond creepy. I'm not one for spoilers so I'll only say that Adrian and his wife are haunted from the time they first step onto the grounds at Castle Verliege. This section ends with a twist that I definitely didn't see coming and couldn't help but turn the page to see how it would all turn out.

The second part takes us with James and a group of researchers to the castle itself. That's when things go from creepy to downright spine-tingling.

Rivers real art throughout this novel is in keeping the reader guessing on who the protagonist is. Even after I finished, I'm still not sure if there was one. The fact that I'm still trying to figure it out shows you how good this novel is.

I'm truly looking forward to reading more from this amazing author. A must read for thriller and paranormal readers!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Dark and Intriguing Thriller April 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is the first book I've read by Micheal Rivers and I must say, I was impressed! He has a natural, easy style that keeps one reading, wanting to know what's going to happen next. The chief reason for this is the dark, twisted story that emerges. At every turn literally anything can happen and there were several twists and turns that left me feeling uneasy and, frankly, creeped out, which is exactly how one should feel when reading this type of book.

Another thing Mr. Rivers does is he keeps the reader guessing as to who is really the protagonist of the novel--if, indeed, there even is one. He does this by frequently changing perspective, letting the reader into each of the characters heads and doing it so effectively that, for the time one is seeing the events through that characters eyes, one is rooting for that character even if, only pages ago, one was rooting for his/her potential foe. This adds to the uneasy feeling and gives the reader an impression of the effect that the strange events at Verliege may be having on the characters. Is there a bit of insanity involved? Are Verliege's spectral residents controlling the living more than they realize? Does this account for some of the strange and unexpected behavior? All this builds to a climax that leaves one truly wondering if the ultimate victor in this battle of wills is truly the most deserving--or if he or she really has the best interests of humanity in mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one! September 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This fantastic book by Micheal Rivers gripped me from the very first page and would not let go of me! It begins with Adrian Bolt (who is accused of murdering his wife)confiding to his doctor James Pellitere. After two years of complete silence he tells the unbelievable story of Verliege.

The story is a very chilling one, Castle Verliege is haunted and the spirits inside of the castle took hold of Adrian's wife from the moment she took her first step into the castle. There is an incredible twist that not only took me by surprise, but had me ignoring my house phone for over an hour until I could finally drag myself away from this gripping story!

About half way through the story, it takes on a whole new direction which intrigued me further, James Pellitree assigns a team to go and stay at the castle in search of the truth. This is where it turns beyond chilling to a whole new level of fear...

Wow this really was one of those unforgettable stories I am so pleased I bought. The authors style of writing flows like water and draws the reader in from the offset. It keeps you wondering all the way through and really keeps your mind ticking over. Pure Genius! Well done to the author on a superb book. I will most definitely be reading more of his work.

The twists & taunts of this book were wonderful. You could feel the emotion & demeanor of Adrian. You're constantly wanting to know more of the story, more of each character. The flow of the story is enticing & rhytmic. Definitely recommend this!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Intelligent and Engrossing Ghost Story June 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Unfortunately, there's not much I can tell you about the story without giving important plot points away. I can say that Verliege is a castle - and what better place to set a ghost story than in a castle?

Rivers writes very well. His characters come alive, whether actually living or dead, and this story held my interest from the moment I picked it up.

The sense of stepping back in time bumped up against modern technology in fun ways and I walked away with new historical perspective.

This is a terrific read. I highly recommend it!
