A brilliant piece of art study,
By Claude Reich (Florianopolis, Brazil and Paris, France) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Vermeer (Paperback)
This book was originally written in French by the late Daniel Arasse, one of the most brilliant art historians of his generation. It completely renews and completes the current scholarship on Vermeer by thoroughly studying his most important paintings (such as the Art of Painting or the Music Lesson). Outlining Vermeer's ambition as a painter, his mastery of the perspective, his painterly language, Arasse manages to dig into the artist's mystery and to decipher the secrets hidden in his masterpieces. The in-depth study of the Art of Painting is a brilliant exercise in art writing. Highly recommended.
