5.0 out of 5 stars Vermeer and his World
I was hesistant to purchase this book after the other review...but I must say this is one of the best art book purchases I have ever made.

This book is large format. It contains limited text. The feature is the large scale reproductions. Most images are reproduced twice-the first image "a clean" copy with text on the left page and image on the right. The...

2.0 out of 5 stars massive and unnecessary
You're looking at a big coffee-table art book. It's nicely done, but regrettably the editors shot their wad on the cover, for there's nothing to match it inside. "Girl with a Pearl Earring" is Vermeer's best-known painting, and indeed, he never outdid it.

It's also not typical of his painting style: most of his stuff consists of worksmiths and artisans in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Vermeer and his World, June 30, 2010

I was hesistant to purchase this book after the other review...but I must say this is one of the best art book purchases I have ever made.

This book is large format. It contains limited text. The feature is the large scale reproductions. Most images are reproduced twice-the first image "a clean" copy with text on the left page and image on the right. The second image is printed across two pages and picks out different features of the image.
If, like me, you love Vermeer's work, and you want to pour over the details and the brushstrokes ...the this book is outsanding...

I also have "Johannes Vermeer by National Gallery of Art"...ISBN 0894682199...while this provides a more comprehensive essay, there is no comparison in terms of reproductions-Cant's version is beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vermeer and His World by Serena Cant, May 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vermeer and His World (Hardcover)
Vermeer and His World is the best book published on Vermeer. As an artist myself and his work being my favorite, I was not disappointed.

The quality of the printing is wonderful as the 10 extra prints included. The text written by Serena Cant was superb, explaining as many fact of the time of Vermeer's life. Although there is little known facts on Vermeer, he painting are little gems to be enjoyed for centuries. To see them in this high quality publication is the next best thing to going to Museums for a view.

If you like Vermeer don't hesitate. The beautyful prints encharted, alone, would justify buying it .
