It smelled PUTRID.

Our baby will basically not drink it at all either unless she realizes that there's basically no other option.

Other soy based formula's I've tried, only Earth's best comes close to the quality of Vermont Organics.

I switched my baby to Vermont Organics from Earths Best. As previously noted in other reviews the first can was great. He seemed to like it didn't fuss when feeding and I was happy he was getting the nourishment he needed. What I was not happy about was the hard time of mixing it. It did not mix well and seemed greasy. No matter what I did there were always lumps of formula in his bottle (even after a whirl in the Nutriblast). When we got to the second can the 'iron, metallic' smell made me nauseated! Also the baby constantly was turning his head away from his bottle and feeding time was no longer enjoyable. Between the greasy lumps, the horrible smells and the baby refusing to drink it, I had enough cues to discontinue use. We are now back with Earths Best.

I was a HUGE fan of Vermont Organics Soy formula and had been using it consistently for the last two months. I had no complaints, and using organic made me feel very good. Recently, I purchased two containers of this formula from the local grocery store. I finished the first container and then opened the second. I immediately noticed a different smell. I thought it may have just been me, so I proceeded to feed her the first bottle.

IT had a very strange SMELL to it. IT was a strange metallic smell on her breath, it almost smelled like rusted iron. She was refusing the bottle... So I tried again at the next feeding, she ate some- but far less than the normal amount that she would take in a feeding. (4oz to 2oz), She started crying more and started to spit up. It smelled PUTRID. My baby NEVER had spit up before this.

I immediately contacted Vermont Organics (perhaps there was a recall), nope nobody had made any complaints. They took down an extensive amount of information on the lot number, etc. They made me feel confident that everything was probably fine, but it was my choice whether I wished to use the formula going forward.

I thought it may be the can, so I went to a different store and ran into a woman in the aisle looking at the formulas, she said she had the same problem with the last can of Vermont Organics that she bought and was returning the rest to the store.

I have switched to the Earth's Best Organic Soy and after the first bottle there is a huge difference. My baby is eating again, and she hasn't spit up at all. I was really hoping Vermont Organics would be the formula for us, but inconsistency has lost me as a customer.

When my son was diagnosed with a milk protein sensitivity, our options were either soy or hypoallergenic. Soy was the cheaper. We tried the major brands but they caused constipation. I heard that Vermont Organics did not cause constipation.
The good news (and the main reason why this gets 3 stars) is that this formula does not cause constipation. However, it smells weird when you mix it up and even worse when your baby burps or spits up. I can't describe it but it smells like a cross between cheese and iron. After a while, it even overpowered that cute baby smell that babies have and lingered on his skin. My son also did not seem to enjoy it very much so he drank much less of it. Since he is a big baby, I guess it sort of put him on a diet. After 2 weeks on the formula, the smell really began to bug me so I slowly switched him back to another soy formula (Earth's Best). We're happier with Earth's Best mainly because I don't feel sick smelling my son (it took about 3 days for the odor to dissipate after we stopped Vermont Organics from my baby's skin).
I would say that if you are having lots of trouble with constipation and the smell doesn't bother you and your baby isn't picky, this is probably a good choice.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Glucose solids, even organic, are still sugar. So I am not in love we this product. However, the baby likes it and it is just an occasional supplement. We've tried many different formulas to see which the baby will find most palatable while at the same time we can feel good about what we are feeding her.

This makes the list, but we still haven't found perfection.

From Livestrong:

The Definition of Glucose Syrup:

Glucose syrup is the liquid form of starch, consisting of carbohydrates. Any form of starch can be used: wheat, potato, rice. Most companies, however, use cornstarch. Candy manufacturers, for instance, prefer glucose syrup over sugar because syrup doesn't crystallize and has a longer shelf life than sugar.

This is the best Soy based formula we have found. It is also the only one that doesn't smell like puke. Great product.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Other reviewers have noted the odd smell to this product. It does smell greasy-nutty to me. Mixing this is best done with warm water, and using smaller measurements to let the powder dissolve better. My grandchild did drink this, but did belch up some rather unpleasant burps. I didn't see any allergic reactions to this, but the price I find rather daunting. If you need a soy-based formula for your child, this may provide all the nutrition, but it does come with a price.

This product is both well tolerated and well liked by my granddaughter.
It mixes well, warms well, and does not cause stomach upset for my granddaughter.
Probably most importantly of all my daughter in law approved of the ingredients. Since both her and my son have lactose intolerance they have limited the amount of dairy the baby as been exposed to. The concern was would she also have upset with soy products. So far this product has been well tolerated.
