5.0 out of 5 stars Veronica can't stop showing off...
Veronica's got two big problems...she doesn't have any friends, and she can't seem to stop showing off. And thanks to the second problem, she'll never fix the first! Every time she meets some girls she likes, she exaggerates and makes up stories, because she's afraid they won't like her otherwise. It's gotten so terrible, most of Veronica's classmates groan and walk away...

Veronica's got two big problems...she doesn't have any friends, and she can't seem to stop showing off. And thanks to the second problem, she'll never fix the first! Every time she meets some girls she likes, she exaggerates and makes up stories, because she's afraid they won't like her otherwise. It's gotten so terrible, most of Veronica's classmates groan and walk away whenever they see her approaching.

Then Veronica meets Hilary, a shy girl who seems to like Veronica just as she is. The problem is, though, that Veronica is so accustomed to showing off, she doesn't really know how to stop...and could easily ruin the closest thing to a friend that she's got.

3.0 out of 5 stars A little tact goes a long way, March 1, 2006
This review is from: Veronica the Show-Off (Paperback)
The main character, a girl named Veronica, is coping with her parents' divorce and with starting a new school. She's worried about making friends and constantly makes up stories about herself and shows off to get attention. Naturally, her classmates get disgusted with her about her bragging. When Veronica finally finds the friends she's been looking for, they turn out to be the people she had least expected to like. Still, it takes some hurt feelings and the threat of closure for the local branch library (Veronica's favorite place to hang out) to teach the show-off the importance of having a little tact.

The book would be good for girls about 10 or 11 years old. When I read it years ago, I cringed over the embarrassing situations that Veronica got herself into because she did not know how to relate to other people well. However, the message of the story, which is that it is important to be conscious and considerate of other people's feelings, is a good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Veronica's fan, January 10, 2002

This review is from: Veronica the Show-Off (Paperback)
I read Veronica the Show Off which is a great book to read because it is not too short or too long. The story is about Veronica trying to make new friends at her new school, but is she showing off? That will be up to you to find out.
When she finally found someone who liked her as a friend, she didn't think that she wouldn't be friends with the girls she liked. Veronica is a little imaginative because she makes up wild stories about her life and what she owns. This book is great for road trips.

3.0 out of 5 stars How would you like to show off?Have you every shown off?, January 24, 2002
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Veronica the Show-Off (Paperback)
Have you every shown off? Well this girl name veronica does not like school so she shows off
so her teacher can call her parents so she can go home instead of being in school. Veronica went back to school and got suspended for showing off. Veronica went back to school three days later and two days after that she got expelled.

Veronica the show off it is a good book because it teaches you something that can not get you in trouble with your friends. Veronica shows off all the time. If you showed off like she did you would get what she got in trouble.

It was a good book because it made me want to read more because it was funny and had intrusting words in it. It has a lot of pages and all of them had a big word on each page. That is what helps you in school you can use most of them words in school.

5.0 out of 5 stars THis is an excellent book., October 2, 1999

I first read this book when i was about 10. I could really relate to Veronica in that i was lonely and wanted people to like me, and i thought it was cool the way she wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in. This book covers a lot of things that young kids go thru growing up. It's a must-have!
