My wife and I purchased this as a music player for our baby's room. When we first got it, as we imagined, it looked beautiful and for sometime, it worked well.

The problem (as best as I can describe it) started happening about a week after use. When we turn on the unit, the music will play but only for a while before going quiet - no sound. The time it takes to go quiet varies. Sometimes, it's very gradual, over several minutes it will just start getting quieter and quieter until we can't hear it anymore. Sometimes, it's almost instantaneous - we can hear one or two words of the song before it goes quiet. Once quiet (or effectively mute) the only way we can get it play music again or hear sound is to power off and power on the device to start it again. We would have to do this about 10-12 times before the until will play music at the desired volume for any amount of extended play and even then, the volume will very slowly decrease over time.

I've sent the above description to the manufacturers as per their instructions and I may be able to recommend the product depending on their actions so we'll see yet.

Since posting this, I've contacted Vers directly. They have shipped a new unit with a return label. Upon receipt of the new unit, I will ship them back the defective unit. Hopefully, this solves my problem BUT nonetheless, I'm very happy with the customer service from Vers. I have no problems recommending their product now.

It's been about 2 weeks now that we've received our new Vers 2x direct from the manufacturer and so far so good. One thing that is for sure, their customer support is the best I've ever received for any product. Return shipping of the defective unit was covered and I'm in Canada! They have identified the issue and indicated it as a known defect but all new units no longer have this problem. It was an issue on older units and only ~5% of them had this problem...so if after a week or so of use, you don't have the sound fade issue, you should be good to go. As indicated, this product (and product support) deserves 5 stars.

Love the look and features. However, after a few days the volume would progressively reduce. Turning off and back on would bring volume to ear-splitting max. Later it would happen again. After a few more days, the volume would remain at zero and could not be raised. Occasionally it would return to max and quickly dive back to zero. Returning in hopes of a better model before giving up.

2nd unit was also defective - this time it simply shut itself off after playing for 2 or 3 minutes. 3 sets of shipping costs down the drain. Avoid this product at all costs.

This is a great product! Much better than the Bose SoundDock for less than half the price! The entire design is very well considered; from initial opening of the box (nice little surprise - thank you!), to a 2 minute setup, to really rich sound with surprising volume for such a small speaker. And the base is really impressive (too much for me actually; I had to tune it down through my iPod).

This is the cleanest and most elegant designed unit I found and I was excited to get it. The joy soon turned to frustration as the first unit just stopped working. I returned it (at my expense) and got another replacement only to have it fail in nearly the same manner. Returned (this time at retailers expense) and replaced and the third unit failed in minutes. That one is on the way back now. THe sound just stopped working. When it did work it sounded beautiful and looks even better. THe design is elegant and understated. The cherry finish was what I wanted, no glossy white plastic or black dust collectors. The way the ipod docks is vulnerable and the interchangeable cradle didn't fit my Ipod video well, but I could live with that. The fact that three units died on my shelf proves there is something drastically wrong at the factory. Too bad. I really like the looks and sound when it did work. I'm now shopping for another speaker. Don't waste your time on this manufacturer and be wary if you have one on your shelf. This is TRASH.

The speaker sound is great. But, the remote stopped working about 2 days after I received the unit. And, now the unit just spontaneously turns off. The volume lowers and turns off - AWFUL!

I have extremely acute hearing (a.k.a. hyper-acuity) and am spoiled by my KEF 107 speakers. Even so, this little table-top iPod player does very well. The manufacturers/designers made sure that the volume does not increase to the point that the speakers distort, i.e. at full volume, it is distortion-free. But full volume is not all that loud.

The outstanding feature of this player is the quality of the sound. The sound is very clean, and is particularly impressive with high notes. The second major plus is the quality and appearance of the cherry veneer cabinet. The rest of the cabinet (i.e. under the veneer) is also wood, and the sound makes that clear. No plastic ever sounded like this.

On the minus side: It would be nice if the controls on the remote control were duplicated on the cabinet itself so that one isn't remote-dependent. A tad more volume would be welcome, as would the option of running it on batteries, to make it truly portable.

As for the price, it seems expensive until you compare it with the competition. In summary, very good sound and very good looks. No bells. No whistles. Just quality.

P.S. I withdraw the comment about the volume. I have since learned that the volume control on the cabinet itself AND the control on the remote must BOTH be set to max volume. At that point, the volume is fine -- and still distortion-free.

My nine year old son stumbled on the Vers while doing some Christmas research for iPod speakers for me. My wife was on the verge of buying a Bose system, which none of us were crazy about, but we thought was still the best product out there for our family. Then we found the Vers.

First, it is a lovely piece of furniture--beautiful at best, inobtrusive at worst. Second, not every ounce of its exterior is plastic--the cabinet is made of wood veneer, and it looks and feels substantial. Third, its sound is marvelous--and while the controls are simplistic and basic, by managing the EQ settings on the iPod itself, many variations for sound quality enhancements exist. We have tried out everything from heavy metal to classical, brass quartets to acoustic folk, spoken word to trance and everything has sounded marvelous.

Unpacking the Vers, as opposed to many of the items we wrestled open on Christmas morning, was simple. The packaging is recyclable, and no annoying twist ties holding in every last piece. The components within are labled for recycling as well, so once you are done with the Vers, it need not live on forever in a landfill. Setup was quick and easy--we were listening (and enjoying) within about a minute and a half of opening the box.

At about half the cost of the Bose, and more attractive than any other product available (at least for grown ups who do not desire industrial looks or metallic orbs), the Vers is a complete winner. We are not audiofiles looking to pick apart every nuance of the music we hear, but we love our music, and we love the Vers.

From the moment I saw the Vers 2X, I had expectations of a fine piece of furniture; a comfortable, clear sound; and most of all, a reliable audio component! All of the above have been realized and even exceeded. The sound fills the room with music as it was meant to be heard. Loved the "green" packaging and environmental sensitivity of the manufacturer. Can't think of a reason why you WOULDN'T want this product!

I have now returned two of these Vers Ipod Docks because of a defect mentioned by another reviewer. The sound was great until it started fading out then stopped working all together. In two separate units! I'm pretty furious about it and am now looking at any other brand of Ipod Dock but Vers.

What a nice compliment the Vers speakers make to our home. The Cherry wood is gorgeous and matches so nice with the rest of our home. I was excited to find that the Cherry wood comes from trees that are being replenished! Super cool! Just a great set of speakers! Really nice sound and easy to set up. A Great Buy! Thanks Vers!
