Good but not great, April 9, 2010
This review is from: Versa Gripps® PRO Glove Weight Lifting Straps Hooks (Misc.)
I'm going to break this item down into a couple areas and rate each to make this review more fair.
Do they work? - 4 STARS
Yes they are straps and they do function well in this regard. I don't think they are super easy to wrap the bar though, not the easiest that I have found I guess. Still less work than full lifting straps. They also seem to work well for pressing, the wrist wraps offer good support and for someone who doesn't wear gloves regularly I am sure my hands will appreciate not getting as chewed up. But I have to point out that I used to use the Shiek dowel wraps and for pulling they are just as good and I found them easier to wrap.
Cost - 2 STARS
Wayyyy overpriced. Even if they last years they are still overpriced. Sure they are multi-use but come on. Regular straps can be had for like $5. Even the more expensive Shiek products are half this price and yes that is with the fancy wrist wraps. I just cant recommend paying this much when there are other and arguably better and cheaper options that work just as well.
Now these do get bonus points for being stylish and trendy. Go to their site and they show all the pros and all the pictures of them being used that are in all the magazines. I should point out that in the latest Flex there's a picture of Silvio Samuel having these same straps tearing on him during a 650lb dead lift and I'm betting that picture wont be on their site anytime soon. But yeah they seem to be the cool thing now so you might get some thrill out of that at the gym.
Overall I will use these since I bought them but if I had it to do over I would of stuck with the Shiek dowel straps that are less than half the price found here

I am expecting some negative feedback on this review because I didn't gush about how terrific these are. And looking at the reviews I also looked at the "see all my reviews" and see that most of the reviewers here have ONLY reviewed this one item, some of the other ones seem to have identity problems. "Paul" also reviewed a sports bra and someone saying they shrug 600lbs seems to have reviewed (and loved) a very female dress! So yeah I'm sort of questioning a few of the reviews and I suggest you do the same before you spend your $.

Better performance and durability than anything - even the classics, September 6, 2009
Bottom line: Forget hooks/gloves/traditional wraps. For bodybuilders, this replaces them all. As far as pro vs. classic; if you are lifting over 300lbs in any direction go pro. Otherwise go classic. Get the Fit for your woman and she'll experience the same benefits.
I have been using these since the late 90's, when they were called power gripps. I preferred them to lifting straps for flexion exercises, because rather than fumble wrapping around the bar, they would attach you to the bar almost as fast as you could grab it. The neoprene padding provided excellent wrist support when benching heavy, and the ergonomic design of the strap portion makes gloves completely unnecessary. The neoprene padding also prevented any digging into the wrists (this by the way, is the only improvement the inferior schiek competitor adds to a traditional wrap, as the schiek is still as slow as a traditional wrap, and offers no support in extension exercises). I would go through a pair every 3 years or so with consistent heavy lifting. The first signs of wear occur were the nonslip pad is stitched to the neoprene, which is where the most force is applied to the product. After my 3rd pair, I experienced occasional grip failure whenever I was deadlifting/shrugging over 300 lbs at the end of a workout, forcing me to go with an alternate grip to keep the bar in place. Over time, this started to cause some shoulder pain. I decided to try the pro series since it has a longer wrap. Now, even when setting over 300lbs for reps with a NON-alternate grip, there is zero slippage. The non-slip material is superior to that of the classic, and that slight increase in wrap size makes them as functional as regular lifting straps, but 10x as fast.

If you can afford them, get them!!!, May 27, 2011
Expensive but worth it. I got turned on to them by someone in the gym after purchasing the hooked grips (which are worthless with any kind of real weight). Versa Gripps are super easy to use and they hold. I max out the shrug rack (12 plates i.e.,540 lbs) and they work like a charm, quick, easy and they hold well.
The one thing I would warn folks of is that, even if you're big, you probably don't need the Extra Large (XL). I am 6' 2" tall 305 lbs (i.e., BIG). I couldn't find any of the XL straps and looked all over the place for them... I found them on Amazon, they actually wrap way further around my wrist (to the poin I almost have no velcro to attach them). I was shocked at the size... I should have ordered a large, or even mediums.
But yeah, I have used them for a couple weeks and they rock! The guy who turned me on to them said that they only get better as you break them in and they start to take a more curved shape. My buddy tried them out and will be ordering them shorty. Another random guy I met at the gym, who owns them, said: best 50 bucks you'll ever spend... I don't know about all that... but it shows people are happy with them.
