5+Star. Sorry for error I can't seem to fix it. Anyone really serious about choosing to have a dog like a Border Collie and then finding, raising and training an extremely well balanced successful Border Collie should read this book. The price was fair and I understand that was probably an issue when the author elected for B&W photos. The book has an abundance of photos and they are helpful. I have many goals for one dog and this book covers many issues I have had to address. My Border Collie, Della is nearly two & a half and is amazing. The commitment and work has been worth the reward because this dog is well adjusted to the demands of head guest greeter at our Guest Ranch. Since I am partially deaf, Della tells me when guests come. Della herds chickens and cows, rides everything, runs at a speed of about 38 MPH, and can bring on command one of a half dozen toys. We are working on vocabulary words and commands. We use this book to reference health, training ideas and problems. Della hates loud noises. I have many other books that help with a few areas, but this one was very good for most all areas.

If you want to know everything you could ever know about the breed of Border Collies than this book would work well. If you are working to train a border collie, we found the resources in some of our other books to be more helpful. We returned it because we didn't feel we got a lot of extra value from the book beyond what we already had.

Certainly helped me understand my dogs...2 border collies! When I rescued these 2 dogs I had no idea what I was in for!! Now I know why they do what they do....these dogs are truly working dogs....not for everyone....people love my dogs...my dogs don't like most people! What they do like: sheep, cats! Balls, agility....obedience work! And me! They have turned my life around....glad I didn't read this book first...I might not have gotten them...I might have gotten a Lab!! They keep me on my toes....not a bad thing for a 62 year old retiree!!

I'm glad to have this book on the bookshelf. The history of the breed and stories are very well-done. The training section isn't as beefy as I'd like it to be, but border collie training is difficult to get down on paper. I have referred back to the book numerous times. If you're interested in border collies, this is a good book to use as a reference. If you want specifics on dog training, find a trainer!

This book was really helpful on understanding my dog, I aqcuired it when my dog was 2 months old. he is now 5 and I've been able to housbreak him and give him some basic training commands succesfully. Besides, this is an excelent guide on grooming and feeding this breed, I honestly recomend it.

This book is great for a new border collie owner. It has everything you need to know and will help you decide if this dog is right for you. Highly recomended!

This book was excellent! It contained detailed information on the Border Collie, including history, photos of Border Collies, and truly offered what it promised to be - the Border Collie bible.
