Book Description

1981
The Maynooth Irish Bible = An Biobla Naofa (1981) was a translation of the Bible into Irish Gaelic by Monsignor Pádraig Ó Fiannachta. "Monsignor Pádraig Ó Fiannachta's love for the Irish language and Irish culture and folklore is evident in all that he does and says. He spent six years working as a teacher and priest in Wales before taking up the position of Professor of Early and Middle Irish and lecturer in Welsh in Maynooth College. He went on to become Professor of Modern Irish before moving back to his native Dingle in Co. Kerry. He has written extensively on Irish folklore, edited countless books and also writes poetry. He also runs a cultural centre in West Kerry and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of local heritage and folklore! One of Pádraig's greatest achievements is An Bíobla Naofa (1981), the Maynooth Irish Bible, of which he was editor and translator." Arna aistriú ón mbuntéacs faoi threoir ó Easpaig na hÉireann maille le Réamhrá agus Brolaigh.' Tá réamhrá ginearálta don Bhíobla ina iomláine agus ina theannta sin brolach le leabhair faoi leith agus le ranna faoi leith. Pádraig Ó Fiannachta an príomhaistritheoir, Bhí scoláirí Gaeilge agus Bíobalta ag cuidiú leis. Tá mionleasaithe anseo ar an téacs a foilsíodh in 1981. Ba é sin an chéad uair a foilsíodh leagan iomlán den Bhíobla Caitliceach--gach leabhar sa Sean-Tiomna ó Gheineasas go Dara Leabhar na Macabaeach, agus den Tiomna Nua ó Mhatha go hApacailipsis Eoin. Tá sé seo ar fáil i ndlúthdhiosca freisin, foilsithe ag An Sagart agus ar fáil ó ÁIS.

A modern Bible in Irish, An Bíobla Naofa was translated and edited by Pádraig Ó Fiannachta. Published by the National University of Ireland, Maynooth in 1981, it was the first Bible in Irish approved by the Roman Catholic church in Ireland. Coslett Quinn translated the New Testament and Psalms in the 1960s.
