As it is the basket is very quick and easy to install and remove on a rear rack.

I used it once and then when I removed it from the bike rack, one of the rubber stopper/holder things on the bottom popped off as did the spring.

The Kettler Rear Bicycle Basket has some problems. Primarily, the spot welds wear out over time. After 3 months of daily use (mostly groceries, about 5-10 Lbs), the welds which connect the bottom brackets to the basket itself simply wore out--the brackets are the lower handles shown in the picture provided by Amazon. Now, there is no way to attach the basket to my bicycle rack. I believe the bumps and vibrations of my daily ride slowly weakened these welds to the point that they detached. The basket had other problems as well (over uneven pavement, it would occasionally fly off and tumble into the street), but the poor welding is what ultimately rendered the basket totally unworkable.

I would not recommend this basket.

I bought a Chicago Schwinn ladies bike for the purpose of grocery and other shopping. Then, came the time to find the best way to carry stuff (actually ended up doing a search for Kettler, since I know it to be a highly respected bike brand in Germany). I had no idea of how I wanted to do it....then I saw this basket. It made much more sense than a basket mounted on the front of a bike (wind drag and weight distribution). Mounting it requires attaching it to a rear carrier eg. Pletscher, or one of the more currently available carriers. This combination of the easily removable (springloaded clamp on bottom of Kettler basket grips onto the carrier) basket and having the Pletscher carrier gives you all kinds of carrying possibilities. The Kettler is beautifully constructed and does attach firmly - however the ends of the clamping devices have to be correctly aligned (they are subject to rotating when it is off of the bike [eg. carried in stores when shopping]. My de facto preference is to also use a pair of bungee cords to prevent things from possibly bumping out of the basket or moving around (same with any basket).... 18" cords will hook onto the carrier in front -> basket -> rear of carrier, making everything absolutely bomb-proof. It all works very well and I'm totally happy with this Kettler product......oh, and it IS handsome. I haven't seen anything that favorably compares to this basket

What a treat! This basket quickly but snugly attaches to the rear rack of a bicycle, and you can remove it just as easily. It accommodates a couple of plastic bags of groceries. With its pop-up handle, you can take it into the grocery store as your shopping basket. A great idea, well executed!

I'm a student, and I'm currently living in Los Angeles without a car. For those of you not familiar with LA's car culture and sorely lacking pubic transportation system, you'll have to just take my word for the fact that many think I'm crazy. My bike is the only thing that makes living this way at all reasonable, and this bike basket makes my experience shopping by bike a breeze.

The basket pops on and off the bike rack easily, but stays firmly on for all of my 6 mile ride home from campus, even when it's full of heavy groceries. It also doubles as a shopping basket, which I love for two reasons: 1) I rarely remember to carry re-usable shopping bags, but lots of places give points/discounts for not using their bags, and with this basket I usually don't have to. 2) It keeps me aware while I'm in the store of how much space I have. Yes, I can pack the basket on the bike much tighter than is reasonable to do in the store while shopping, but it's a good reminder.

I have had one problem with the basket: it attaches to your rack with a spring-loaded mechanism on bottom, and contacts the basket with 4 screw-on rubber stoppers. I had a minor accident on my bike (swerved suddenly to avoid being hit by a car, hit the sidewalk). The basket popped off partially, but I hurriedly put it back on and headed home. I later noticed that one of the stoppers was missing, along with the corresponding spring. In the past, I had noticed that with abuse the stoppers occasionally twisted out of the right orientation, and apparently the fall was just enough to pop off one that had been loosened.

Notably, I was still able to use the basket in this condition, but it was less stable. I was bummed and considered replacing it, but first I gave emailing the company a shot.

Parts of it come off quite easily.

I REALLY like this basket and was really excited when it came in the mail. I used it once and then when I removed it from the bike rack, one of the rubber stopper/holder things on the bottom popped off as did the spring. Luckily, I was able to find both pieces and put them back on. It was about the third time I used the basket when two of the rubber holder things and springs fell off and now I can't find one of the rubber holders. It's frustrating because I think this is a great basket, but now I need to figure out a new way to attach it to the rack.

First, I am a skeptic when it comes to on-line shopping. I just bought a new bike and was looking for a basket to carry small packages, ete al. The Kettler Basket was a very pleasant surprise! It is solidly built and easy for one to install. It is made from a heavy gauge metal, painted black. The insert springs are easy to pull apart to set the basket on the rear over the tire. I would recommend this product and the price was very fair to me.
