Verso - E-reader and Tablet Essentials

Verso Prologue Tan Cover for Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Paperwhite
Verso Prologue Tan Cover for Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Paperwhite
By LightWedge

It’s rare for a book to become a classic overnight. Just ask Henry David Thoreau. He only managed to publish two books during his lifetime, both of which were regarded as strange and weird. He even paid for the printing of one out of his own pocket, a 1,000-volume run of A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers. Fewer than 300 sold before his death.

Not until the 1920s did Thoreau earn his due, and today, it’s difficult to find a high school graduate that wasn’t required pick up his ode to natural living, Walden.

Like the literary palate of the reading public, the Verso Prologue e-reader might also require a short breaking-in period. But that’s because it’s hand constructed of super-durable, high-quality materials. Namely, animal-friendly “leather” on the outside. Don’t worry; you won’t miss the cow. You will quite pleased with the classy look, supple feel, and impressive durability of the Prologue. A hand distressed finish, carefully embossed embellishments, and antique foil stampings add sophistication.

On the inside, advanced microfiber engineered for maximum softness cradles your device when closed while patent-pending silicone-enhanced corner elastic straps hold it in place—a grip guaranteed for the lifetime of your device.

Verso Prologue Tan Cover for Kindle, Kindle Touch, and Kindle Paperwhite
  • Fits your lifestyle
  • Patented strap system
  • Slim and lightweight
  • Detail of texture
  • Easily folds back

The Prologue Tan Cover is part of the Verso Prologue Collection

Wrap a throwback cover design around the latest in tech innovation? Cool. Like handcrafted bindings of old, Prologue covers feature details that tell a story: hand-distressed finishes, carefully embossed embellishments, and intricate foil stamping. Each Prologue cover is constructed by hand so each is a bit different. What's old is new again. The past is prologue.

It looks so much nicer than all the black covers out there. Its functionality is great, does not have the imperfections or design issues of some cheaper alternatives, looks great, and makes reading the kindle easier in some ways. It really does look nice. It doesn't smell in the least bit (unlike reports for some other covers). The charging and headphone ports are still accessible when closed. There are virtually no flaws with it, except one that is a pro and a con. My wife loves this cover.

It has nice muted maroon color, nice brown leather binding, textured cover, stitching, and gold paint trim on the front and binding that is antiqued a bit with imperfections that are a nice touch. The inside has a material that seems nice too that isn't just plastic. Its weight is well balanced. It isn't feather light, but isn't too heavy either. The cover folds back easily, which offers 2 additional advantages. If your hand cramps up holding the kindle alone because of how thin it is, with the cover folded back it adds some thickness that really helps make it more comfortable. Also, it gives you a little bit of a shelf to slip your finger under or rest on something that makes it more comfortable to hold.

It has a pocket that runs the whole length, unlike some corner pockets of some other covers that have a design flaw. Other corner pockets can curl slightly at the corner in the middle of the cover, even if not putting anything into it, and come into contact with the screen, causing it to do things, like order books without your knowledge. This one does *not* have that design flaw. But if you cram stuff in there, you could still cause a problem, so I advise against using the pocket.

2.0 out of 5 stars Damaged Kindle June 27, 2012
Color:Prologue Red
The Verso Prologue Antique Cover is beautiful and it fit my Kindle Touch very well. However, after a couple of months, I took it out only to find that it had permanently stained the back of my Kindle black. This is extremely unfortunate since the primary reason I bought the case was to protect it from damage. Granted the damage is aesthetic, but it is damage nonetheless. I'm afraid I can't recommend this case until this issue is resolved.

Customer service was prompt... After emailing Lightwedge about the issue, they responded that this is a known issue and that they would send me a replacement with a plastic insert to prevent color transfer as well as a discount on my next purchase.

This is good, but what of the ones still on the shelves? At the least, there should be some sort of recall or notification that would warn of potential damage to the customer's reader and steps to mitigate it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, classy, but a few issues November 3, 2012
By L. Kirk
Color:Prologue Blue|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Size: S, Color: Marbled Blue

I've been using the Verso Prologue cover for a couple of weeks now, with a few different e-book readers. In general, I found it to be a pretty good e-book reader cover, but I did have a couple of issues with it. Read on for a discussion of Pros, Cons, and Other observations.

Beautiful Design: If you like old library volumes, leather bound editions, big comfy chairs with overstuffed cushions and ornate upholstery, you should like this. There is a leather-like (not real) binding and corners. The corners and spine have elegant gold leaf embellishments. Very classy looking.

Soft Mircofiber Interior: The interior fabric is soft microfiber that will be very gentle on your device.

Interior Pocket: Very handy! I like to keep a sheet of paper handy for jotting notes by hand, along with product instructions and my proof of purchase whenever I can. This pocket lets me do that. Another brand name cover by a different manufacturer has a similar design, but no interior pocket. It was a bit less expensive.

Versatile Fit: It fits the Kindle 4 just fine, and a Nook Simple Touch and Simple Touch with GlowLight. With the Kindle 4, there is some room around the edges of the device: at least .25" at the top and right, .375" at the bottom, and .5" at the left. With the Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight, the extra room is .25" top and bottom, .125" on the right, and .375" on the left.

Sturdy Straps: The straps are thick, not overly stretchy, and they hold the device firmly in place. It takes a good bit of effort to get the wider Nook devices into the cover, but once in, the fit is fine.

Made by Hand: Pretty impressive. How many things are handmade any more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Verso Cover for Kindle Touch February 26, 2012
Color:Prologue Tan|Verified Purchase
This item is very nice. I have had friends confuse it for a leather-bound journal. I'm happy with the quality of the feel of the cover and the security of my kindle within it. I did have to set it "backwards" or face down on surfaces when I wasn't using it for the first week or so, as the front cover did not lay entirely flat. It would remain slightly opened, which was made worse initially if I read with it turned completely behind the kindle. It has pretty much cleared up, though, after storing face down for a week. I think that the more I use it and the flexibility increases, this should become a non-issue.

I was slightly annoyed by the packaging, however. It comes with inserts that contain magnets. This is very convenient to keep the cover closed if it were on display in a store. On the other hand, it was very misleading when I got excited that my cover would have a magnet that kept itself closed. There is no way to leave the inserts in and still secure the kindle at the same time; I tried. To be fair, the item description doesn't say anything to mislead one about a magnetic closure. I just couldn't help getting my hopes up when I initially opened my shipment and noticed the magnetic closure aspect.

All in all, I am extremely happy with the quality and functionality of the product and would still buy it again in a heartbeat.
