Myers Briggs Types in German!, March 28, 2000
This review is from: Versteh Mich Bitte: Charakter-Und Temperament-Typen (German Edition) (Paperback)
This book is a german translation of Kiersey & Bates "Please understand me" (1st version - there is now a please understand me II in English). The book is a very good introduction to Myers Briggs type which is based on Jungian personality theory. The book contains the Kiersey type test which is a simple and cheap way to establish your Myers Briggs type (tests often cost £200 by a qualified psychologist) There is an interpetation by Kiersey & Bates of each of the sixteen types. Which is generally the same as the original Myers Briggs explanations but with a personal angle developed from Kiersey's research. Then there are detailed explanations of the difference which type makes to parenting, career etc which are Kiersey's own interpretations and can be very helpful. Kiersey's 2nd edition mentioned above which is not available in German takes these theories much further and is different in emphasis, so you could regard this first edition as out of date. However as an introduction to the subject for those whose first language is German or who have limited English vocabulary, it is very good. It is particularly helpful to have the test in German as the answers depend on some vocabulary subleties which may not be easy to understand in English for those whose first language is German.
