Can I have your attention!,

This review is from: Versus Books Official Pokemon Gold & Silver Perfect Guide (Collectors Edition) (Paperback)
This guide is stunningly good as it offers fully detailed maps, explanations of what to do and where to go and has excellent artwork and graphics. The pokedex is really cool because it shows you all the pokemon, when they evolve and what level they learn attacks. It also gives you a chart of all the HMs & TMs and what they do and where to find them.If you're going to buy gold/silver get this guide. IT BEATS THE REST!

Indeed Perfect,
By An 11-year old reader (Southern California USA) - See all my reviews

I've seen a lot of pokemon guide books, but this is the best yet. Even though it lacks a straight down items list, the pokedex is great. With this guide, I have captured every pokemon available in Silver Version. And with the Ho-Oh and Lugia, I am unstoppable. The guide shows all new basic form pokemon and tells you what page the pokemon is listed in in the pokedex. It has up to date detailed maps, trainer rosters for nearly every trainer, Techniques section, TM and HM's list, a calander events chart and types chart(advasntages and dis advantages)This is the guide i wuold reccomend to anyone who wants to beat the game.

Indeed, a perfect guide,
By Justin Stook (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews

It's indeed a very perfect guide, full of lots of pictures and info. This is very handy, since you can see all the stats and attacks of the Pokémon. With the same basics as the Adventure guide, but with more things revealed, it's perfect. The only thing we miss are the discribings of the Pokémon itselfs on pages where you will find the Pokémon for the first time. Also, the stats have to be more precisely. For the rest it's a great guide!!! I can't be missed by your collection!!!

I couldn't agree more with what arlando909 had to say about the book. I recently bought it from Electronics Boutique, and I love it. Versus book's perfects guides are the only ones that I buy. I STRONGLY recomend it.

A very useful guide,
By Nick Whittredge (Northampton, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Versus Books Official Pokemon Gold & Silver Perfect Guide (Collectors Edition) (Paperback)
This guide is one of the most useful guides I have ever gotten. It has a full pokédex, a list of TMs, HMs and skills, an introduction to the game in the beginning of the book (using the pokégear, trading, etc.) and a complete walkthrough with maps, rosters, wild pokémon charts (with percentages for how rare they are) and tips along the way for gym leaders, puzzles and so on. Even though I prefer not using guides for playing games this has been very helpful.
That being said, there are a few issues with this book. -throughout the book there are many typeos- not just spelling mistakes but getting words wrong... -They cheated on some of their stats on the pokedex by replacing them with others (I've seen Ampharos' stats about a hundred times) -their advice for beating gym trainers is biased- they don't mention many types that are as effective as the ones they mention. -they are very biased in general, from their views on which are the best pokémon of their type to the best TM's and techniques. -their theory on catching and raising pokémon is all wrong. They believe that you should just catch any pokémon along the way for the hell of it and use them in battle. Then to make up for having weaker pokémon, you can just use the guide and get a lot of pokémon that have type advantages to your opponents. This is not the way to play pokémon. A trainer should plan out a team that has a wide variety of types to take full advantage of their differences. I have made 5 or 6 teams of pokemon, each which is both strong statistically and by type, and you really only need about 7-9 pokémon throughout the entire game to have an unbeatable team. Plus, in doing this, one can have much higher level pokémon because you aren't training nearly as many. Although they got some things wrong in this book it's still useful. so long as it's not used incorrectly you're good

just what was promised!,

they said this guide was going to be perfect! and it was!
without this beaty it would have taken me ten times as long to beat the game. if you're in search of an easy to understand dream of a guide, this is what you need. includes full pokedex and EXACT appearance ratios for which pokemon appear in which route at what time of day and which rod to use if it lives in the water. also a full list of what balls are best used to capture which pokemon. and every other piece of useful info you could want. all i will say is that wherever i'v seen it its been about 100 dollors. i wouldnt say any guide is really worth quite that much but certainly any time u see it under about 50 quid.... go for it! indeed this is THE perfect guide.

I usually get NPower or Prima for pokemon guides, but this one is great as well. It has all the detailed information on the pokemon I wanted. great art too.
I didn't buy it for the game, but just to read and look at pictures as nostalgia. (already played through it 3x)

Good guide! The appearance ratio charts are really helpful, instead of bopping down "Common" or "Rare."
The Pokemon Profiles are pretty good too, telling you to catch it or not. But sometimes Skarmory was spelt "Skarmony." Maybe because when the author first saw the book, the "r" looked more like an "n!"
