Versus Books Comes Through Again!,
By Jason (New York, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Versus Books Official Pokemon Gold & Silver Adventure Guide (Paperback)
As I said in the Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time review, Versus Books do their guides in such detail, it puts other guides to shame, and their Gold and Silver Adventure Guide is no exception. The book follows the same simplistic and efficient format of the Red/Blue/Yellow guide (minus the nifty little "Catch [In so-and-so]" bubbles). Once again, the roster of every trainer in the game is available, including amount of money they hold and if you can exchange phone numbers with them (a new feature in Gold/Silver that Versus Books completely covers). The excact appearance ratio of all Pokémon is still there; covering which Pokémon appear in which area, in which versions, and at what time a day. And, of course, there's that patented Versus Books free poster, heh. One thing to note, although the author of the book is listed as "Staff Of Versus Books" it is clear to fans of any of his past works, that renowned author Casey Loe had a major hand in the creation of this. You'll find his wit and sarcasm abundant in this guide, moreso even than in the Red/Blue/Yellow guide. This guide actually more closely resembles his work on the Versus Books Final Fantasy VII and Ocarina Of Time guides, both of which are astounding. Perhaps my only gripe with this book is that it is only the "Adventure Guide" and not the "Perfect Guide." The introduction refers to it as the "Upcoming Gold and Silver Perfect guide" but the wait may force you to buy this version. Really, there are few differences between the two. I expect the Perfect guide will include the comprehensive "Pokédex" from the Red/Blue/Yellow Perfect guide, but other than that, I can't find anything this book is truly lacking. However, if the Perfect guide is out, by all means, buy that. That basically wraps up my long-winded review. I hope I've encouraged you all to buy this and not some sleazy Prima or Brady Games guide (they're both affiliated with Satan). Casey Loe and Versus Books have come through again, creating the best guide possible... Until the Perfect Guide rolls around. P.S. Casey Loe, if you end up writing comments for this guide, as you did for Ocarina Of Time, and see this review, e-mail me (Weirdness1@aol.com). I have fan-mail that needs sending.

OK, But could do better,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Versus Books Official Pokemon Gold & Silver Adventure Guide (Paperback)
This book is great if you just want to beat the game quicker than usual. It also has pretty good info on the gym leaders, trainers, and what Pokemon appear at certain areas and times. BUT, it doesn't really have the list of 251 pokemon and their evolutions, attacks, and the TM or HM moves they can learn. Overall, this book is pretty well done, but it should have the list of pokemon. It's also as if the author was just too lazy to create the list of pokemon.PS: I don't think there ever will be a COMPLETE Pokemon strategy guide.

Professional and Precise,
By Jr Lawson (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Versus Books Official Pokemon Gold & Silver Adventure Guide (Paperback)
In contrast to the Prima books, the Versus guide certainly lives up to the 'perfect' title. Whereas the Prima guide is riddled with mistakes and wrong information, the Versus guide has a near perfect presentation of text and maps.A huge pokédex, all true and to the point, with clear, colourful maps with all rosters [just about :)]and no blur or fuzz. It even highlights cheats and glitchs with its rapier wit and sensible humour, I quote: 'Yeh, go stab yourself with a nail, Haunter (this is curse), while I switch pokémon to get around it!' This is underneath a caption, all in pixel-perfect graphics. Overall, I cannot find a fault, although they can't be 100% right, all the time, with minor errors like forgetting to mention a PP UP in the middle of a field. Apart from that, this is the best guide on the market that I've seen! + Maps - A few minor faults So go get it! ...
