I am a bit of a mouse junkie, I have purchased about 10 mice/trackball in the last 2 years. I am in search of the best and most usable mouse for work. I am on the computer 12+ hours a day most of the week.
I will rank this mouse a close #1 for these: 1. Very lite, easy to move. 2. Excellent angle, not as upright as the "Evoluent VM3R2-RSB Vertical Mouse 3" which I also have in my arsenal of mouse. 3. The back and forward buttons are easily reachable with the thumb. 4. Easy to click. 5. Thumb area has a hook area where your thumb can sit which the Evoluent doesn't have is a great plus+ 6. The mouse look nice, perfect blend of shiny and dull rubbery areas for better control. 7. Overall feeling of my hand and arm don't feel tired after a full days use, that is very important to me. The mouse feels like it should be held with a full palm, but my hand is too big and misses the buttons, therefore this is the only downside, I have found a position that is comfortable and doesn't set the side of my hand scraping the desk (like the Evoluent did). One note: This is my true #1 input device: Kensington Turboring which has been discontinued & mine broke is the best trackball I have used. I wish Kensington made it again. My thumb was rarely used which I believe can cause most of the strain on the hand and arm. UPDATE: After 1 year of use, the mouse is still my daily driver. I tried a different mouse (3M Ergo which was a fail). The mouse still works great, the only downside after 1 year of use is the scroll wheel now makes a squeaking sound when used, not unbearable but can get annoying if the room is quiet.

I draft upwards of 6 hours per day and began experiencing tingling in my wrist. I tried various wrist rests and a special mouse pads to no avail. This mouse is wonderful and a great value at less than half the price of similar items. It has greatly reduced my wrist discomfort; when combined wrist stretches, my symptoms are completely alleviated. I would recommend to everyone!

The angle is great. I use with mouse rest and it feels right.
Its a little small, but I am use to using a smaller mouse. The main draw back is on mine the click pressure is high it gives a loud click and you know you clicked because you have to push it hard, like now its time to click if you follow me. For a ergo mouse a feather click would have been great. No drivers needed all buttons work. I am using two mice at one time now, no problem. I may click with left hand on old mouse and guide on right hand with new mouse. Or get a track ball for left hand. The main problem is most keyboard drawers do not give the room for that set up. Maybe the click will loosen up? I hope so, as the click sends a "message" through my wrist I am not liking at the moment. 11-29-09 update. The click is a little better now, I still give 4 stars because of click.

I am writing this from the perspective of both a PC gamer and from having to do a lot of data entry at work. I bought this mouse because I had developed severe inner elbow pain, called "mouse elbow." Pain has been worsening for months to a point where I could no longer pretend it would just go away by my eating advil all day. I looked at several other "vertical" mice, and this looked the best from a gamer's perspective. The mouse was immediately recognized by my PC and worked fine with just a slight adjustment of the pointer speed, in windows and in WoW. I dove right into WoW, and for three hours straight had zero arm pain for the first time in months. I had stopped taking advil the day before to test this mouse. I was frankly stunned. Not a single tinge of pain. I did a lot of battlegrounds and farming, and one dungeon, no pain. Only took about 30 minutes to adjust to it. Use/Fit: I saw reviews here that speak of the mouse not fitting a hand right. That is because, as I learned, you have to make other adjustments when switching to a new piece of equipment. It is true that if you just do what you did before, you may find that your ring and middle finger line up with the buttons instead of index and middle, or that the buttons are harder to press. I found that by adjusting the height of my chair higher, moving the keyboard a bit to the left (for gaming), and changing my usual arm position so that my wrist was aligned straight with the back of my hand, I got a perfect fit. This meant that my fingers, now perpendicular almost to the desk surface, were curled around the mouse, sort of like holding a can of coke. This made the buttons highly responsive, as my fingertips were over the front edge of the mouse. Feel: This mouse felt like part of my hand once I made the adjustments mentioned above. The buttons were highly responsive, and it was easy to reach and click the side buttons with my thumb. The mouse wheel was smooth and quiet. As I said, the button clicks were easy. The people above who spoke of having to push hard on the buttons are simply holding the mouse wrong and need to make other adjustments that I mentioned. This mouse did not feel "cheap" like others mentions. It is light, and therefore easy to move. I am definitely buying another one for work. I have tried switching to my left hand for data entry at work, but that has been annoying at best. Addendum/Update 1/17/11: Still using this mouse, arm pain was/is completely cured. I tried ging back to a regular mouse, but it just did not feel as good as this one. My arm/hand feel more normal with my hand in the semi-vertical. I decided at work to continue using my left hand for my data entry and computer, since I do alot of gaming in the afternoon and evenings. This divides the time between arms. My left hand mouse usage is easily as good as my right ever was.

Great idea, but too small for me,

This is a very well-designed mouse, and I'm sure it would be a great product for the average-or-smaller sized person, but not for me. I'm six and a half feet tall and it's obvious that this product was designed for smaller hands than mine. Even so, after using it for a week going back to a regular mouse re-introduced pressure to my wrist.

Since I have been using this mouse, the dull ache in the back of my hand has gone away. Also, it fits so naturally in your hand that it took no time at all to get used to. I am loving it!

Nice try, but cheap for a reason,
This review is from: Wow Pen Joy Vertical Ergonomic Optical Mouse Black By Ergoguys (Personal Computers)
I have an Evoluent mouse that I have been using for about 5 years now, and after throwing it in backpacks and abusing it, it has started to skip around on the screen a bit. As much as the evoluent has been a great, durable mouse, I bought the Wow Pen Joy as a less expensive replacement. Unfortunately it just doesn't do the job. It's light and moves well on the screen, but it's not fully vertical--my hand is at more of a 45 degree angle, and the thumb hold is strange. Beyond that, the buttons require way too much force to click, and the scroll doesn't glide very easily. Given the funky angle and the hard to push buttons, I have been feeling more wrist pain using this mouse than the regular old mouse I have at work. It's just not designed as well as the Evoluent--spend a little extra money and get a mouse that's truly ergonomic!

I have to start out by saying I suffer from both arthritis and neuropathy. I had high hopes that this unit would work for me. It might have done so if I were a seven year old. It is not built for an adult hand. It is too short and when I position my hand visually, my fingers extend beyond the front of the mouse by almost an inch. I have average size hands. Also without the sense of feel, my fingers naturally want to rest with my index finger on the scroll wheel and not the button. I've tried adding positionng aids with no additional succes.

****BUYER BEWARE BUTTONS TOO HARD TO PUSH = PAIN,

THIS MOUSE CAUSES PAIN!!! IS NOT TRULY VERTICLE, AND THE BUTTONS ARE SO HARD TO PUSH YOU WILL DEVELOP A WHOLE NEW TYPE OF PAIN TRYING TO CLICK! DONT BUY, DONT BUY, I CANT SAY IT ENOUGH, DONT MAKE THE MISTAKE I MADE, DONT BY THIS JUNK. A person who hasnt developed any carpal symptoms yet may be ok, at first, but after a while you too will be in pain. If you already have any pain this will make it worse immediately.

It seems too small.,

I think this would be a good product for someone with smaller hands. At first, my wrist felt no better than using my old conventional mouse. After 2 days, I shifted my hand forward so the main part of the mouse was in my palm, which felt much better to my wrist. However, with my hand comfortably around the mouse, my finger tips sat about 3/4 inch in front of the buttons and I had to shift my hand back in order to be able to use the scroll wheel. I ended up returning it because of this.
It feels as well built as a conventional mouse that you would get with a new computer, some of which can last for a long time. It does not feel as well built as ergonomic mice that cost three times as much, although it doesn't feel 1/3 as cheaply made:) |
