Grateful, curious and happy is what I felt after hearing this album. This is more than your traditional background music it has the makings of a ageless classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoothjazz.com Review, June 15, 2007

Talent abounds on this self-titled debut recording from Vertice Williams. The smooth, silky-voiced songstress is a welcome addition to our Smooth Jazz genre. Singing since the age of 2 at church, Vertice is a bit of a virtuoso with regard to music: she began playing piano, violin and guitar at the age of 9! Young Ms. Williams was exposed to a rich cultural lifestyle growing up in Pasadena, California and attributes art and literature as key influences in her music, which explains the sophistication you hear in her expression. This busy performer appears all over Southern California and is a regular at the popular Spaghettini Jazz Grill Sunday Brunch (sponsored by KTWV - 94.7 The Wave). You'll discover eleven new tracks here on VERTICE WILLIAMS, all originals and all evocative and passionate. Her vocal style has some sweet, old school influences to my ears. I'm definitely picking up on a Smokey Robinson feel (which is exceptional and fresh sounding in this delivery) and perhaps even a little Diana Ross vibe as well... while there may be some Motown mojo going on here, this recording is 100% contemporary. Vertice is very comfortable in her upper register, and she smolders on the low notes. The stand outs: "The Best Thing That Ever" has a radio-friendly groove if I ever heard one, and "You," a sensual number with a cool sax solo that saunters. V stands for Vocals. V stands for Victory. V stands for Vertice. ~SANDY SHORE

There are only a few releases each year that give you the real deal. This is definitely one of them! Track after track of soulful sounds that are destined to become soulful classics. A must for your disc changer. Turn down the lights, light some candles and press play! The rest is up to you.
