Good b-side,

If you have not heard "Vertigo", then you have been living under a rock. The real catch, and what makes this cd-single better than Vertigo #2, is the b-side, which is a good (but not great tune) - a bit of a rocker, lyrically in the vein of "Always" (the b-side from "Beautiful Day") - and a nice addition to those who will be burning their own HTDAAB+ cd.

Still Loving It!!!,

Ladies and Gents, the most overplayed song of 2004. It is successfully being played on every media possible, but it's still a great track. The band in it's primary colours of rock n' roll, the Edge is a God man! Good B-side too, which Edge really works, but the lyrics and chorus is weak. Still worth every penny though.

B-Side For The EXtreme u2 fan!,

I bought this single exclusively for the b-side. "Are You Gonna Wait Forever". This a great ,upbeat song!!! I wish it was on the regular album! I wish it could take the place of either the 7th,8th, or 10th track on the regular album. I think one of those songs should be a b-side, but not this one.

this is a great rock song. pure and simple. it's got a great hook... a great guitar riff... and great lyrics that, if you think are just fluff, then you're not really using the intelligence that i hope you have. (i'm giving you the benefit of the doubt.) in the tradition of all U2 songwriting, the song can be interpreted on many levels. that's the brilliance of Bono's lyrics. you can enjoy it as a peice of escapist pop art, or go deeper and get a real sense of meaning out of it.
as far as U2 "selling out," they weren't paid a dime for their participation in the iPod ads. they got behind something that they believed in and would give them some promotion at the same time. what's wrong with that? they're remaining relevant unlike most aging rock bands by showing up for the Grammy's and playing the Super Bowl, etc... If you had a platform like that and a message you wanted to get out and an art that you'd spend all of your time and money on, wouldn't you think you'd want to share it with as many people as possible? it's clearly not about the money (the own most of Ireland and are doing pretty fine... they could have given this album away and they'd still be fine), though i'm sure what they can do with the money has been taken into account (the work in Africa, etc...). open your eyes and enjoy U2 for what they are... brilliant. if you don't like it, don't listen. but think a bit before you get all self-righteous and criticize.

Great rocking tunes - musically. There is no digital headroom though with the mix - its pegged to the max. The songs are extremely compressed to the point of distortion even at low volume. It sounds like someone deaf mastered these songs. Even the vocals are distorted. Maybe that's how they wanted it, but this seems to be the growing trend with all digital music - to see how much headroom can be squeezed out of digital levels to the point of low level distortion. Bottom line - the songs rock, but the audiophile in me says they sound like c-r-a-p. It would have sounded better having the band play in a garage and putting up 2 cheap microphones to capture the moment instead of wasting money on a deaf engineer :)

Original and Creative,

One reviewer said the guitar riff sounds like a Hanson song, so I checked it out. No, it doesn't sound similar to me. Anyway, I have never heard anything like Vertigo before, it is probably U2's best and is incredibly original (with an awesome video). This track comes from a truly great album, How To Dismanlt An Atomic Bomb. It is definately worth your money.

This is a great single. Are You Gonna Wait Forever could've been on the album. It's a great little song.

Let's face it... There are probably only a few reasons anyone would purchase this CD:
1. You are a completist (and the rating doesn't matter) 2. You want the B-Side. If you are in category 1, go for it (I did). If you are in category 2, save the money. The single version of Vertigo is not any different than the album version. The B-Side can probably be easily found on I-Tunes or other online dealer for around $1. In fact, I don't find this B-Side to be one of U2's better ones. It is a decent song, but is any song really worth a $10 plus purchase? In general, U2's B-Sides have shown a definite decline, probably because little work is put into their production making these B-Sides effectively little more than demos.

ONE OF THE GREATEST SINGLES OF ALL TIME,
This review is from: Vertigo 1 (Audio CD)
I was so happy to learn that U2 won so many grammys including the album of the year.U2 are a great band who richly deserved all their awards and the academy was right in honouring them. This is a great song AND I REPEAT THAT PLEASE BUY THIS SINGLE OR BUY THEIR ENTIRE ALBUM HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB.Highly recommended.

FED UP WITH "FED UP",

U2 had nothing to do with denying Mariah the Grammy for Album of the Year. The listeners/fans/other musicians elevated their newest album to that great height. Just because an album might sell the most in one year does not mean it is the best of that year. Don't get so irritated and angry about who wins what. Relax & Enjoy the music!
