HARD BOP PLUS BALLADS, July 23, 2008

A quintet session with Walt Weiskopf on tenor sax and a rhythm section led by David Hazeltine. Most of the tunes are hard-bopish in nature,and there's 2 ballad features for Snidero. Indeed both Weiskopf and Hazeltine lay out on Polka Dots and Moonbeams and the bass player solos after Jim. Skylark is given the traditional treatment. Weiskopf's playing is a bit brackish. Those of limited means who have never heard Walt play may well prefer CLOSE UP Jim Snidero with Eric Alexander on 5 of the 8 tracks. Hazeltine is the pianist again.
