I heard two songs from this I really liked on a satellite station featuring remixed holiday music. So I had high hopes for this CD. Unfortunately I was hugely disappointed once I received and played the CD. For one thing, there could have been more MIXING! The last two songs are very good but the rest leaves me cold. I love ambient groove and except for the last two songs, this is not it. If I wanted straight up classic holiday music, I would have bought a CD with classic holiday music!

This is the type of compilation that you must listen to a few times to appreciate the brilliance of it. Perfect for a dinner party or festive gathering. Most of the tunes sound like completely different songs, while at the same time keeping the essence of the original recordings. I especially like track 11, Chilly Winds, Nina Simone, because of its haunting refrains of Nina Simones raspy voice. Also notable are Good Morning Blues (Count Basie); I've Got my Love to keep me Warm (Billie Holiday), and The Christmas Song by Mel Torme for the wonderful layering of different melodic beats. Get it if you want to play something somphisticated and different over the holidays, yet definitely in the spirit of the season.

The first Verve Remixed album is high in my normal rotation. The later ones are pretty decent as well, so I went ahead and tried the Christmas album.

Well, it's not bad. It doesn't blow me away, but there's nothing wrong with it either. I only have a few Christmas albums, so I'll keep it, but if you have a good-sized collection this may well drop through the cracks.

This is a way cool Christmas CD. Non-traditional and remixed in an excellent fashion. You can listen to it over and over again without getting tired of it. Highly recommend. Also, check out Dream Warriors if you like this jazzy sound without the usual synchopated beats.

I'm a big fan of the Verve Remixed series. This continues that tradition with Christmas music. I especially like Mel Torme's "The Christmas Song" as remixed by Sonny J, and the Brazilian Girls' remix of Dinah Washington's Silent Night is interesting, too.

So why 4 stars, not 5? This CD doesn't grab me as much as I'd like it to. I wish some of the tunes were more lush. At this point, I'm not sure anything will ever replace Reindeer Room II as my favorite lounge-y holiday music.

I don't know about this one. I am a big fan of the verve remixed and was excited to find a xmas version. A friend and I listened to it in the car while driving around last night and the first songs were OK, but not stunning. Then we hit a few around track 7 that were unappealing and repetitive and didn't seem to evolve at all. We started skipping through and we just weren't impressed. I hate to write a review based on one listen, but it was bad enough that I just wanted to suggest you research it a little before plunking down the cash. I will give it another listen, maybe it will grow on me, but if it doesn't, I am going to offload it pronto. It bums me out.
