with the relatively inexpensive remasters, why bother?, May 3, 2004
This review is from: Very Best Of 2 (Audio CD)
This was clearly intended to supplement the first 'Very Best of', which was heavy on the records of Supertramp during their prime - 'Crime of the Century' (1974), 'Crisis? What Crisis?' (1975), 'Even in the Quietest Moment' (1977), 'Breakfast in America' (1979), and 'Famouse Last Words' (1982) (i.e., there is only one track on each volume from outside this era). Whereas Volume 1 was full of AOR radio hits (and thus, heavy on material from 'Crime' and 'Breakfast'), this collection rounds out with fan favorites from the other three of these records.
Therefore, my advice is this: if you are a casual fan, keep Volume 1 and do not both with this relativley expensive supplement. If you are more than causually interested, don't lay out $40.00 for Volumes 1 and 2 when you can basically have all five records in their original running order for a little bit more.
