I OWN THIS CD, BUT LET'S CLEAR SOMETHING UP...,

I never respond to other reviewers, but Juan Redman is way off. The reason why Al B. Sure never took off was because many people did not think he could sing live - especally when he made an appearance on Oprah. Since many of the artists back then in R&B had stronger voices, he was singled out, unfairly I may add, as someone you would not pay live to see. ( I was in my early 20's then and I KNOW what I'm talking about). Christopher Williams (who I love) was also slandered, many thought he was the one who cause Halle Berry to lose her hearing by beating her (which later turned out to be a false rumor). Plus, it was reported that he was somewhat of a diva at Uptown records and was not getting the proper treatment on their label. Whatever the case, it had NOTHING TO DO with them being light skinned, cause women were eating those two up (myself included), as well as Keith Sweat (who is MOST DEFINITELY a chocolate brother). Let's just clear that up.
Bottom line, Al B. Sure's first album is still great after all these years. And I've always loved the song "Right Now"...It still sounds sexy. So if you can get past all the ridiculous rumors and theories, get this CD and put it in your New Jack Swing/Quiet Storm selection. While you're at it, get Christopher Williams, Jodeci, Keith Sweat, New Edition, Miki Howard, and Gerald Levert. A great time for music, that's for sure.

A 4 Star Release If You Don't Own Al B. Sure!'s 1st Release,
By guillermoj (Washington, DC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Very Best of Al B Sure (Audio CD)
It's hard to rate a greatest hits package which only came from 3 releases, especially if you happen to own them all; notwithstanding said challenge, I am giving this a 4 star review because it is the only AL B. Sure! release that you will need if you don't have any of his previous releases and as a bonus of sorts includes a worderful song ("The Secret Garden")from Quincy Jones' "Back on The Block" that is probably one of the best singles combining so many great artists that actually works because of the combination of the artists, including Al B. Sure and the late Barry White.Al's first 2 releases were very strong and most of the important songs are here. His third release just did not do it for me and 2 out of the 3 songs included in this set are better than I remember them to be. This release takes you back to the days of Teddy Riley, but Al B. Sure was a cut above the rest because of his great voice (sexy falsetto combined with some Barry White) and catchy songs. I wish that he would record again, but he is now focusing on a broadcasting career and on business ventures. The only minus to this CD would be the inclusion of unnecessary material, like a really cheesy Spanish version of "Nite and Day" and a couple of the remixes that round things up. I'd focus on the first 11 songs and forward to 14 and end it there.

pretty Good,
This review is from: Very Best of Al B Sure (Audio CD)
basically if you have His First Album&"The Secret Garden" Single then you pretty much have all you need from Al.B.Sure.He seemed like He would have a long&Promising career but pretty much went away as a Artist.but behind the scenes He had a Hand in Jodecci&also writing stuff on Tevin Campbell among others."Nite&Day" is still the cut.

This is a very underrated cat Al B. Sure! He wrote and produced with his first cousin Kyle West for Tevin Campbell and several others back in the New Jack 90's. This CD is a pretty good survey of his solo work but I advise you to purchase his "Private Times" and "Sexy Versus" CD's which are still available, those have some good songs on them. His work is very underrated for some reason. Listen to the ballads on those two CD's. I think the singles that got released from those two discs weren't the best and maybe that killed the last two albums sales-wise cuz Albert Brown III (June 4, 1968) was a damn good writer and producer. Especially on the slow jams. He helped Devante Swing of Jodeci out with the production on the slow jams on the Jodeci debut CD.

I was a little girl when Al B. Sure came out with Nite and Day. I was six years old, and now I am 24. My older sister was in love with him, I think she still is. Everytime that song came on, I was singing along. He still looks good, if you ask me. His voice still sounds good, too. I only wished that him, and Christopher Williams would have had more success. Just because they are both lightskinned doesn't mean anything. That is the sad part. It is always a complexion thing. The cd has a lot of great tracks!!!! If you don't have this cd, please purchase it.

Al B. Sure! Man I wish you was still around today I love your music man Its off da hook.If you don't own any of his 3 LPs thisand is dying to lis atten to some Al B. Sure! then this is a must have. Each and every song on this album truly are classics.Including the #1 smash hit Nite and Day one of the best slow jams you will hear on the radio,on tape,or CD.They're are other Great hits on this compilation such as Off On Your Own(Girl),Rescue Me,If I'm Not Your Lover, and Missunderstanding which is in my opinion one of my favorite dance songs ever I can't believe it only peaked at #1 on R&B for one week and made it #42 on the pop charts.Missunderstanding is one of my favorite Jams to dance to its all very very catchy although it wasn't that catchy to the suburban audience back in 1990.Another great slow jam off this album is Right Now off the Sexy Versus album. This sexual smooth ballad is another classic and a true gem.My favorite part of the song is when he says "Turn off the T.V. and put on a slow jam and let's get busy"Classic. This album is definitely worth picking up I give it 5 out of 5 stars AL B. wherever you are please come back and do some more music I kinda missed out on your music back in 1988-1993.

Nobody can say girl, girl, girl like Al B.,

I will never forget the first time I heard Nite and Day. Back then I was still a youngster living with my parents. My stereo was on the floor and I was listening to the radio. From the second I heard that first note, that bass and him sing Ooooh, can you feel it baby? I dropped to the floor and lay in front of the speakers. I was hooked. Paralyzed with glee and filled with lust. And I hadnt even seen him yet. I still feel the same way every time I hear it. Im a hardcore Al B. fan and proud of it. I bought every single one of his albums, well cassettes and loved them all. I recently got rid of all my cassettes and am replacing them with CDs. I bought In Effect Mode again, but did not want to buy all the others. This new CD featuring his best is the answer. All the songs I still love and havent heard in a while. As I write this, Im enjoying Hotel California. Who else could make this song so sexy? The liner notes give a nice background and there are a bunch of pictures. Some are a little cheesy, but I guess looking back the 80s were just generally kind of cheesy. He is a cutie like no other and when Im 90 years old, hell keep me young remembering the first time I heard him. If you love Al like I love Al, then buy this Right Now. Its feelin kind of right
