maybe not all their best--but what a feel good experience !!!,

The Very Best of the Ames Brothers is another strong single CD compilation of hits and ballads performed ever so wonderfully by The Ames Brothers. The Ames Brothers were so talented they could have done these numbers in their sleep! The sound quality is very good and the artwork stands out as being quite good.
"You You You" has The Ames Brothers crooning their very best--and the backup chorus helps things along even though they never drown out the brothers! The melody is very pretty and I really like "You You You." "I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me" puts The Ames Brothers squarely into the spotlight and that's where they belong! They sing and harmonize so flawlessly; this tune also has just the right tempo to make it a very special highlight of this album. Great! In addition, there's "The Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane;" this cute and peppy little tune shines bright when The Ames Brothers deliver it so well! This is a number I haven't heard before but it all works very well and it's quite nice. "My Bonnie Lassie" is a sweet number that impresses me with its beauty; and when The Ames Brothers sing "My Love, Your Love" they make this brighter than any other artist ever could! The percussion is also used very well in "My Love, Your Love." Similarly, "It Only Hurts For A Little While" sparkles when The Ames Brothers give this their all; they sing this with all their hearts and souls; and this amazes me a lot. "Summer Sweetheart" is another very pretty number that features The Ames Brothers singing to perfection with a great musical arrangement and there's another highlight when The Ames Brothers sing "The Game Of Love." "The Game Of Love" is quite a tune and I really like it very much. "Melodie D'Amour" has a fine tempo and when the brothers deliver this they bat it straight out of the ballpark! It's great and "Melodie D'Amour" is perfect for dancing all alone with your sweetheart late at night in your living room. "A Very Precious Love" also shines when The Ames Brothers perform this with great finesse. "No One But You (In My Heart)" has both singing and harmonizing; and it all works very well. "No One But You (In My Heart)" is a tune I could never tire of hearing; this is anything but elevator music! "China Doll" sounds so sweet and the electric guitar works well; and the CD ends strong with The Ames Brothers performing "Destination Moon." "Destination Moon" is a beautiful number with great strings and this makes a fine ending for this album. The Ames Brothers really show their talents on this album. I highly recommend this for their fans; and people who like classic pop vocals will not be disappointed.

Not a bad song in the bunch,

The more you listen to this CD, the more you love EVERY song on it. The Ames Brothers harmony makes it easy to pick out any part and sing along with it yourself. The music is fun and meaningful. I bought the CD for 2 songs, and ended up with a great surprise, as there is not a bad song on the album at all. Well worth what you will pay, and a must for your collection. My favorite: The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane

Close Harmony At Its Best!,
By
This review is from: The Very Best of The Ames Brothers (Audio CD)
Sibling harmony always seems to have a special quality. Witness the Everly Brothers, The Andrews Sisters, The Williams Brothers, etc. Never has that been more apparent than with the Ames Brothers. This is top-quality four-part harmony, featuring the beautiful, liquid voice of Ed Ames. The choice of material, liner notes, sound quality, packaging and technical information are all quite good; my only quibble is the omission of a few of their true chart hits. That aside, if you love close harmony, this CD is for you!My personal favorite: "It Only Hurts For A Little While".

A Great CD!!!,
By
This review is from: The Very Best of The Ames Brothers (Audio CD)
(Updated July 4th, 2006) In response to everyone's complaints that this cd is incomplete in the hits department, this cd covers only the RCA recordings, NOT CORAL!!! If you want the Coral recordings, check out Sentimental Me: The Best of the Ames Brothers on Varese Sarabande. However, my only problem with this cd is the inclusion of Destination Moon, instead of Stay....they picked which song out of the two to use by flipping a coin (this comes from the mouth of one of the reissue producers on the album!). This cd is GREAT, all of the songs taken from the original master tapes, the sound is crisp and clear, and is just so wonderful listening to.

Excellent Quality,

This review is from: The Very Best of The Ames Brothers (Audio CD)
The overall quality of this CD is excellent. The recordings never sounded better and the tight Ames Brothers harmony sounds crisp. The choice of material is also excellent, with a good combination of the hit singles and some lesser known singles such as the beautiful Forever Darling, the title song from the Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz film, and Pussy Cat. There are not many better vocal groups from the 1950's and not many CD's available of the Ames Brothers.

Ames to please...,

This is a collection of mostly hit singles from the Ames Brothers from 1953 through the end of their charting days in 1960 on RCA. While most of the best-known hits are here, Taragon opted to include a few album sides over some of the lesser-charting singles. Lots of very listenable tunes here and its hard not to smile, if not sing, along with such songs as "Melodie D'Amour" or "Naughty Lady Of Shady Lane".Taragon has done an excellent job in reproducing these tracks considering the vintage of some of the early sides. The first eleven tracks from the early and mid-50's are in mono. Tracks 12 through 18 are in full-sounding, albeit primitive binaural stereo. The last two, 19 and 20, are in full three-track stereo. From the more innocent age of 50's pop, this is fun listening all around. If you're an Ed Ames fan, Taragon also has a superb compilation of his solo work (which see).

Great collection,

A fantastic collection of their RCA sides which is marred only by the non-appearance of 'Stay', their 1958 charter. How they could include 'Destination Moon' (an LP only track for RCA) in preference to 'Stay' is beyond me. Great sound on all tracks and quite a few in stereo for the first time. A couple of the other reviewers who complain about the non-appearance of tracks such as 'Rag Mop', 'Undecided' etc are way off course. This is a compilation of their RCA releases, not their earlier Coral material which is available elsewhere.

The selection on this CD is excellent. It brings back many memories of those days when radio was full of the good-old songs.
They are relaxing, easy-listening, and the kind you can sing along with

Being 52 years old I heard Ames Brothers songs as a young lad. As a typical baby boomer I have aquired tastes for rock, folk, pop, country, and classical music. This CD is by far my absolute favorite! The songs range from romantic to humorous. The Ames Brothers were in my opinion THE premier vocal group of the twentieth century. Not only are the vocals outstanding but the band arrangements are first class. I played this CD while taking my 85 year old father for a drive and he loved it so much I have just ordered another for his birthday. My ten year old daughter has enjoyed it so much that she puts it on to play while her friends are playing at our house.
