A good primer,
By A Customer
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
My mom had this when I was little and I used to listen to it all the time. I recently re-discovered it and purchased the CD, I forgot how great B.J. really is. The oldies radio station doesn't do this man justice. Along with "Hooked On A Feeling" and "I Just Can't Help Believing", this disc also features "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head", "Mighty Clouds of Joy", and "Most of All", the major highlights among many others. This CD is great as a primer for the first time BJ Thomas fan, and the one who is looking to save money by getting many of his classics in one cohesive collection. Highly recommended.

MELODIC SOFT ROCK FROM THE 60s AND 70s,
By
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
B. J. Thomas made occasional visits to the upper reaches of the pop charts from about 1968 to 1970 and less frequently throughout 1970s but continued to have country hits for much longer. My favourite here is the poignant No Love At All with its foot-tapping melody and evocative lyrics and the bouncy Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head which was the theme song from popular 60s movie Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid. Hooked On A Feeling with its strong hook has retained its vigour and still beats all the later cover versions. I Just Can't Help Believin' is a gentle soulful ballad that has also seen many interpretations, including one by Elvis. Speaking of whom, Thomas' cover of Suspicious Minds has its charms. The other hits here include Everybody's Out Of Town and Rock `n Roll Lullaby. This is classic melodic soft rock with intelligent, sometimes poetic lyrics and is a good showcase of B. J. Thomas' early music. As a Best Of, it is not comprehensive though, as Thomas created a solid body of memorable work afterwards, including lots of excellent country and gospel songs.

There are singers whose voices do more than entertain.
BJ Thomas has one of those voices. It's soulful and moving. I've been a fan for many years. I love this album.
