5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendous composer and arranger
This album gives an excellent overview of the life and work of Bert Kaempfert. It contains all his world hits like "Danke Schoen", "L-O-V-E", "Spanish Eyes" or "Strangers in the Night" plus Kaempfert's instrumental hits like "Swinging Safari", "Afrikaan Beat" or the "Happy Trumpeter". 3.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Stroll
The fact that I bought a CD called "The Very Best of Bert Kaempfert" shows that I have an appreciation for the arcane. I don't know that it's going to have a very wide appeal, but for what it is -- a compilation of arrangements by a 60's pop bandleader, the kind of stuff you might have heard on "Rambling with Gambling" on WOR -- it's a nice stroll down memory lane...

A really great goodie of that CD is the text folder with detailed information about Kaempfert's astonishing career.
All in all: a "must" for everyone who likes instrumental easy listening sound!

5.0 out of 5 stars Those were the days!, December 5, 2004

Bert Kaempfert became a symbol of two generations , he knew to combine the elegance, the inspiration and lyricism, always preserving this well defined personality along the late fifties and the sixties.

How can you forget themes such as Wonderland by night , Red roses for a blue lady, Strangers in the night and the world we knew of your emotional memory?. You grew up with those themes in your soul , and your heart .How many love affairs , how many marriages were made reality thanks to those beautiful and engaging melodies?

But then in the middle of the sixties when new sounds came to the ring of the popular music as Herb Albert and his Tijuana sounds, Ray Connif , Sergio Mendes or the european invasion Paul Mauriat , Frank Purcel , Georges Siravo, Norrie Paramour , Kaempfert turned around the rhythm and surprised the musical world with the a swingin ` safari . He understood the world had changed and so he accepted the challenge .

Acquire this well selected collection and turn on the clock of those days, because a trumpet never before sounded so well played!

5.0 out of 5 stars A FABULOUS ALBUM, May 15, 2004
By A Customer
I FIRST HEARD BERT KAEMPFERT'S ORCHESTRA ON AN LP THAT MY FATHER HAD BACK IN 1966. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THE SOUND OF HIS ORCHESTRA ALMOST IMMEDIATELY. I ESPECIALLY LOVE "OVER & OVER THE WORLD WE KNEW" (A SONG THAT BERT KAEMPFERT COMPOSED AND THAT FRANK SINATRA MADE A HUGE HIT OUT OF). KAEMPFERT'S ENCHANTING WAY OF SEDUCING THE LISTENER WITH A COMBINATION OF INSTRUMENTAL AS WELL AS VOCAL SOUNDS IS AWESOME. "TENDERLY", "DANKE SCHON", "BYE BYE BLUES" AND "STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT" WERE ALSO WELL DONE BY BERT KAEMPFERT. MY ONLY REGRET IS THAT I DID NOT BUY THIS AT AMAZON.COM (I MIGHT HAVE SAVED MYSELF A FEW BUCKS!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Even kids love it!, August 30, 2001
By A Customer
I remember a few songs that my parents played in our home when I was an infant, however, until recently, I didn't know the performers' names. Thanks to amazon.com, I plugged in one of the song titles (Wonderland By Night) and discovered that Bert Kaempfert arranged and produced the number. For sentimental reasons, I purchased the "Best of" CD and found that I enjoyed each song equally as well. But what I found most interesting is that our 20-month-old boy enjoyed the CD more than any of the other varied music artists we introduced him to. I find much joy in seeing him dance and smile to certain songs on the CD. It's interesting, because I remembered the music 40 years after I first heard it as an infant. And, now, he enjoys it as well. Nonetheless, the CD offers wonderful music -- some that make kids and adults dance; others that are beautiful songs.
I highly recommend the CD for parents of young children, based on how much our child enjoys it. In reading the dust jacket, I noticed that Kaempfert music from the CD was used for a children's TV program in '62. A solid choice then and still the same today.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best Of Bert Kaempfert, April 27, 2000

My parents have recently moved and uncovered this title in record form. I've always liked this record because of the unique sound(s) Bert made. The songs were easy to listen to and easy to wistle or hum to."That Happy Feeling" is probably my favorite. A real toe-tapper.

The fact that I bought a CD called "The Very Best of Bert Kaempfert" shows that I have an appreciation for the arcane. I don't know that it's going to have a very wide appeal, but for what it is -- a compilation of arrangements by a 60's pop bandleader, the kind of stuff you might have heard on "Rambling with Gambling" on WOR -- it's a nice stroll down memory lane.

I especially remember the tunes, "That Happy Feeling" and "Afrikaan Beat," which were used as theme songs for some of the kids' shows I used to watch on Channel 5, with Sandy Becker. Those, and "Swingin' Safari," are my favorites on the disc. Most of the others I was familiar with from having heard them played on my grandparents' radio.

There was definitely a Bert Kaempfert style, fairly easygoing and understated, reflective of the early 60's, and I'm very happy that Taragon Records put out this compilation, and that it's available on Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars WONDERLAND ON CD!!!!, September 24, 1998

The folks at TARAGON RECORDS have outdone themselves. This package was originally released in the 1960's on record. It was great then, but now on cd...it's fabulous!!! If you are one of the thousands of Bert Kaempfert fans that remember or still have the original record...this cd package is like a breath of fresh air (one more time). I urge all Kaempfert fans and lovers of pop music of the 50's and 60's to buy this cd...it's great! Thanks to Bert's widow for releasing the master tapes for use on cd.

I am old enough to remember the Sandy Becker Show, the Match Game and several other shows that used Mr. Kaempfert's music as a theme or sound logo. The music on this CD is carefully re-mastered and sounds as fresh as it did in 1966.

If you remember my above references, too, then pay extra attention to Afrikaan Beat, That Happy Feeling and A Swingin' Safari.

4.0 out of 5 stars it means africa, January 30, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
african beat; it's the music i have been searching for since years and found it thanks to amazon.
I needed it as a background to the film i shot in tanzania.
"African beat" and "swinging safari" both take me directly back to the immense serengeti plains and i feel like being there again.
