5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits Peppered With Some Great Covers
Wow. This collection takes my breath away! Bobby Vee has a way with a song. All of his greatest hits are here along with covers of other 60's songs that actually sound better than the originals! Incredible. Bobby Vee is simply unmatched as a vocalist and is one of the most underrated singers around. Whereas a lot of the music from Bobby's era sounds dated,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too many missing tunes
Missing tunes like "I'll Make You Mine" and "Every Little Bit Hurts" make this a poor choice for the title "Very Best..."
There is a better greatest hits package out there. Some filler was added to this as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits Peppered With Some Great Covers, May 7, 2001

Wow. This collection takes my breath away! Bobby Vee has a way with a song. All of his greatest hits are here along with covers of other 60's songs that actually sound better than the originals! Incredible. Bobby Vee is simply unmatched as a vocalist and is one of the most underrated singers around. Whereas a lot of the music from Bobby's era sounds dated, the music on these CD's is timeless. "Come Back When You Grow Up" and "The Night Has A 1000 Eyes" are two of the best, most perfectly-crafted pop songs of the last half century. I'm sorry, but Bobby is an uabashadly romantic crooner, a soulful folk singer, a rock-abilly rocker and is vastly undr-appreciated! Luckily, this collection shines a light on this wonderful singer and boy does he shine brightly!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Way to Go Back in Time, March 24, 2002

This is a great example of the works of Bobby Vee - I had forgotten about him until I happened upon him about a year ago. I have seen him in concert many times and this CD covers the gamut of his talent - why hasn't he been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - a mistery to me! This CD will make you dance around the house or make your commute seem much shorter (this is always on of the 12 CDs in my car). Don't hesitate - order this CD today AND if you have a chance to see Bobby Vee and the Veelines in concert RUN don't walk - you'll have a blast!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD with two of Bobby Vee's best lps + 5 Bonus Hits, October 17, 1999
This review is from: The Very Best of Bobby Vee (Audio CD)
I was very pleased to see this cd issued! Collectables did a great job with the packaging and the sound quality is excellent! The two lps presented fully represent Bobby's great early sixties sound. The extensive liner notes make for interesting reading too! Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Time Machine, March 7, 2006

So if you have ever wanted to take a trip in a time machine, you've got a ticket to the mid sixties with this disc. Bobby Vee recorded some great songs and some corny songs. They are all here. Best part is the sound quality and channel separation are both excellent. Buddy Holly did a few select recordings known as the "string sessions" utilizing violin sections as accompanyment. All of these Bobby Vee cuts use this theme. Try it and you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars this album makes me dance around the house..., January 4, 2008

The Very Best of Bobby Vee is a must have for Bobby's fans. This single CD contains a whopping thirty tracks and it is an awesome way to hear Bobby sing without all those scratches on the phonograph records!

The album starts with "Rubber Ball." Bobby sings this really wonderfully; his voice is strong, very masculine and appealing to teens of the day. The musical interlude is comparatively brief but it also works very well. I really like "Angels In The Sky;" this features Bobby at his best--he never sounded better. Moreover, listen for "Long Lonely Nights;" Bobby's interpretation of this ballad stuns me with its beauty. The backup vocalists and the strings enhance the number but Bobby's performance makes "Long Lonely Nights" a masterpiece!

"Devil Or Angel" is a smooth, romantic ballad that will make couples want to slow dance even today; and of course "Poetry In Motion" remains one of Bobby's greatest hits ever. Bobby sings this with all his heart and soul; and this impresses me a lot. Bobby's peppy version of "Mister Sandman" features great use of the percussion and Bobby sings this to perfection!

"Take Good Care Of My Baby" is a stunning number and when Bobby sings this it shines just as brilliantly as it ever did. "Run To Him" is another romantic ballad but of course it is melancholy. Bobby never sings a superfluous note. "The Night Has A Thousand Eyes" has one of the most beautiful arrangements I've ever heard. This excellent, teen pop tune still sounds passionate today as Bobby sings it as only he could.

The packaging by Collectibles is excellent; and I like the artwork.

Overall, Bobby Vee fans are going to love this CD! Even the casual fan will almost certainly recognize several of the tracks on this album. I highly recommend this CD.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Very Best of Bobby Vee (Audio CD)
Great Bobby vee cd you get your moneys worth. Instead of putting on SOME of the filler Lp tracks(remember me huh is a great lp track that should have been rreleased as a single) they should have put some of his minor hits on(Charms,Letter From Betty)...but all in all a great cd for the begginer Vee fan

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like late '50's, early 60's teen hits, this one's for you..., September 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Very Best of Bobby Vee (Audio CD)
This is a thoroughly innocent, totally pleasant hour-plus of light rock songs from the boy who filled in for Buddy Holly on the tour that took his life. Bobby is still performing. A year or so ago, he played at the Clovis NM Music Festival, held in the city where Buddy and the Crickets recorded most of their hits. Other than the music of Buddy himself and Ritchie Valens, who died in the same plane crash, this CD and one by The Fleetwoods are my favorite packages from that era, roughly 1958-'62. If you like those artists, you will enjoy this also. Almost all of the 30 tracks are worthy, and make this a good value.
