An Underappreciated Funk Master, August 24, 2000
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Hamilton Bohannon is to funk what John Mayall is to rock. He was rarely on the charts, but it's a rare big name in the genre who doesn't owe some part of his inspiration to him. Another reviewer has pointed out the timeliness of Bohannon's music. Only last week I was hearing something on a contemporary rock station, and its beat was pure Bohannon - the Bohannon Beat - a smooth, dancable, moderated tempo with a syncopated side beat. When you normally think of disco and funk, you think hot, but Bohannon succeeds in making disco and funk cool. When you're atuned to this beat, you can't help thinking, "Ah, Bohannon!" when you hear other artists pay tribute in their music to this underappreciated funk master.

Future Funk Circa 75, April 18, 2000
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Bohannon was a unique funk master with one foot in heavy funk/black rock, another in early disco. Some of this stuff sounds like it could have played on the radio yesterday... or tonight, you wouldnt even have to remix it. It is gritty, yet transy - - its funky and grooveable, there is bass and rhtyhm all over the place. Classic funk-a-haulics will love it as much as clubbers. Check out Bohannons rhythm section THE COUNTS, also available at Amazon... (Its Whats Up Front That Counts is their best !) - - I dont know why but listening to this all over again but me in the mood for some BOOTSY.

THE BEST DANCE MUSIC FROM BACK IN MY DISCO ERA, January 31, 2005
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
the funk master bohannon was the most incredible dance music back in the day ... anybody who appreciates 'let's start II dance again'...knows what i'm talking about.
this was so big in the 'arena' in ridgewood, queens, the great dance clubs of brooklyn as well.. nothing ever came close.
whenever the great deejays would mix the classic disco, they'd pump in bohannon and everybody went nuts on the dance floor.
bohannon, you live forever in my heart !! joe cauzy you know what i'm talking about :o)
