5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound! Rhino Does it Again!
Having bought both versions of their greatest hits, the previous Atlantic version and this one, I'll have to say that this Rhino version is by far the better. The sound has been remastered and the improvement in sound quality is very obvious. Rhino has a way of vastly improving the original sound of almost all of their projects and this one is no exception...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Music, Flawed Collection.
Chic is clearly one of the most influential groups of the 1970s, thanks to the innovative songwriting and production team of Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. Chic is clearly one of the most influential groups of the 1970s, thanks to the innovative songwriting and production team of Nile Rodgers and the late Bernard Edwards. This compilation is a collection of the band's hits, and on the surface, it looks flawless. Many of the group's big singles ("Dance Dance Dance," "I Want Your Love," and "Le Freak") appear and this actually has more tracks than the band's previous retrospective, 1991's "Dance Dance Dance." So "The Very Best of Chic" is the better album to get, right? Well, not so fast. On this album, some of the tracks are edited and don't feature the original 12-inch version. What's more, is that "The Very Best of Chic" is missing at least two key songs that appeared on 1991's "Dance, Dance, Dance": the excellent "Chic Cheer" and "Strike Up the Band." Of course, this CD isn't necessarily bad, and it serves as a good introduction to the novice listener. But 1991's "Dance Dance Dance" is really the superior album and is much better than "The Very Best of Chic." Try getting that one instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound! Rhino Does it Again!, September 4, 2005
This review is from: Very Best of Chic (Audio CD)
Having bought both versions of their greatest hits, the previous Atlantic version and this one, I'll have to say that this Rhino version is by far the better. The sound has been remastered and the improvement in sound quality is very obvious. Rhino has a way of vastly improving the original sound of almost all of their projects and this one is no exception.

So they don't have the 12" mixes, so what? They made a choice: fewer tracks and longer mixes or more tracks. Personally, given the vastly better sound quality and the greater track selections, this Rhino version is more representative of what Chic has done and what their best work is. I never liked "Chic Cheer" or "Strike Up the Band" anyway and they are definitely not essential tracks as the key tracks are still present on both discs.

If you are looking for a good representation of the band's work and with vastly improved sound quality, this one is it. Highly recommended!

To call Chic just a disco group pays them a great diservice. One of the most influential and innovative groups of the 70's, Chic's music is still as edgy and progressive today as it was then. This new package contains the full length versions of all the hits like "Good Times", "Le Freak", "I Want Your Love", and "Dance, Dance, Dance", as well as other favorites like "Rebels Are We", and "Soup For One". The booklet has great liner notes and photos of the group. Brilliantly remastered by Rhino's chief engineer Bill Inglot, Chic's music finally sounds as good on CD as the original vinyl did. The definitive greatest hits package of this great band.

4.0 out of 5 stars There is better..., December 12, 2000

I gave this only four stars because another offering called "Dance Dance Dance: The Best of Chic" has the album length (and sometimes 12-inch vinyl versions of many of the songs here. Usually, longer is better.

Chic was innovative, and both collections have all their hits and most of their popular work. While it is en vogue (pardon the pun) to dog out disco, it must be admitted that Chic was polished, and their instrumental backing superb. Being quintesentially disco, of course, the the beat was killer! Anyone this side of Robert T. Ironside would have had to get up and dance to them.

Great music

5.0 out of 5 stars Dance Dance Danceeeee!, September 29, 2006
This review is from: Very Best of Chic (Audio CD)
I own both greatest hits and this one is much better than the atlantic best hits. Not only is the sound quality better but it contains a god mix of early and Late hits of the group. Plus the cover insert has some pictures of the group as well as info about the group that was interesting. Chic was considered a disco group, but listen to how tight they were and how they could change the tempos on a song and you'll see that they were so much more than a disco group. Great compilation.

4.0 out of 5 stars VERY COMPACT, VERY DEFINITIVE, A GLISTENING GEM !!!., March 27, 2011
Very well, I respect the opioions of the fans of the super disco group CHIC, I wish to add mine...
This set contains all the core hits, full lenght original album versions...Hits like "DANCE, DANCE, DANCE", "EVERYBODY DANCE", "LE FREAK", the classic "I WANT YOUR LOVE", the anthem "GOOD TIMES", "MY FORBIDDEN LOVER" and the etrenal "MY FEET KEEP DANCING", plus the "lesser hits"..."WHAT ABOUT ME?", REBELS ARE WE", "REAL PEOPLE", "STAGE FRIGHT", "JUST OUT OF REACH" and the achy "SOUP FOR ONE"
NO doubt, it's a gr8 introductory package to the new CHIC fan, but to the real CHICOPHILLE the yearning will continue !!!. missing are the sexy "A WARM SUMMER NIGHT", the beautiful & gloomy "WILL YOU CRY(WHEN YOU HEAR THIS SONG)" and the relaxing instrumental "SAVOIR FAIRE"...If those were included, you would'nt need another CHIC cd !!!. A tricky marketing method !!.
Nonetheless and overall, the package is very, very good.. If on a very tight budget and can afford only one CHIC cd, you would do very well to pick this one up !!!, but it's going to intriege you to venture further into CHIC territory !!..

2.0 out of 5 stars Pointless...get "Dance Dance Dance" instead, December 28, 2008
By
Are Seven (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
I'm sorry that I didn't do a little more research before buying this one. As one of the previous reviews said, this the "Dance Dance Dance" collection is much better. This one has remixes or different versions of two of Chic's best songs--"Good Times" and "Everybody Dance".

So unless you're looking for different versions, hit the Back button and go buy Dance Dance Dance instead of this one.

This cd contins the very best music of chic. I have seen this group live. The way they dress, their string section and lyrics shows a very refined and sophfisicated r & b soul group.
