This is the long-awaited companion volume to Ace’s best-selling "Queen of Rockabilly" collection.

"The Very Best of The Country Years" picks up from the point where Wanda made a seamless transition from country- inflected pop and rock to straight country. It contains a few more early rockers, all of her important country hits (there were over 20 in number), and several superlative LP tracks, a fabulous combination that showcases all the varied talents of this remarkable artist.

The eye-catching booklet includes a 4000+ word essay by Rob Finnis together with ads, reviews and rare pics of Wanda from the relevant period.

Wanda Jackson remains very active on the touring circuit, having found a following among younger audiences who sense her rebel spirit. She also runs a busy website which contains feedback from her many fans including Elvis Costello, and this release should be assured considerable media attention.

For Wanda Jackson fans this is a great value packed single disc collection, a must have. While most collections focus on her rockabilly years it is about time we get a solid collection of some of the best country song for those who can't afford the Bear Family collections. I don't feel the need to review the music since most people who are looking at this import collection are probably familiar with her work and her sound. But if you don't and have been curious about her and her contributions to country music this would be a great collection to start with. Her songs range from classic country to some of her fun story songs. My favorites include Big Iron Skillet and The Box it Came In, good revenge songs. Besides the Bear collection I don't think most of these songs have been issued on CD.
This package is well worth the money full of 30 songs, as many as they could cram into a single disc. The book contains a fun and educational essay about her successes and failures on the country charts and her career in general. Also contains a lot of vintage pictures including a promo shot for "this gun don't care who it shoots" where she is holding a gun over her shoulder. Two things I look for in a compilation is informative liner notes and a good number of songs, ACE has done a stellar job. Well worth the money for this collection.

This compilation is okay, but it concentrates on her '60s slick Nashville years. Missing are the country greats: Happy Happy Birthday, Have You Ever Been Lonely, Making Believe, Lonely Weekends, Today I Started Loving You Again, Seven Lonely Days, Reckless Love Affair, The Box That It Came In, I Cried Again, These Empty Arms, Since I Met You Baby, You Win Again, etc...

With this many omissions, it can hardly be considered "The Very Best Of The Country years."

this is 1 of the few CDs by Wanda Jackson, that has I'd be ashamed on it. and that track is in all it's early 60s orignal sound. a lot of other hits in this CD, too.
