The very Best of David Whitfield,
By Horace-11a "Cliff" (England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
It is agreat pity this CD and other DW recordings are out of print. However they seem to be reprinted from time to time so it might be worth checking with Amazon. This CD might also have an alternative title - 'David Whitfield's Greatest Hits' - Also look for other titles - 'The World of David Whitfield' - 'From David with Love' 28 tracks of popular classics - 'David Whitfield Sings Stage & Screen Favourites'. Amazon also have a book on David Whitfield - 'Cara Mia' - a MUST for anyone interested in finding out more about him.

Am I not being honest because I haven't heard the CD yet - however, my husband and I have all the records that David Whitfield had those many years ago and have made tapes of them. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOREVER for a CD to become available - MORE, MORE, MORE. We feel that David's voice is one of, if not the voice, the very best ever heard. Thanks for the opportunity to purchase this.

The Very best of David Whitfield,

This Cd contains the finest singing you are likely to hear in a long time-a sadly missed artist at the peak of his career from 1953-1960-the fidelity of the recordings is just wonderful - Decca recordings at this time were amazing -many of the tracks in early stereo and they sound as fresh as today on this marvellous CD.My favorite When You Lose the One You Love-backed by Mantovani(1955)-this is the best singing you will hear this side of heaven! My advice -BUY IT

I personally have not heard this CD but am familiar with the works of David Whitfield from old records. I also had the pleasure of seeing and hearing him many years ago on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was fantastic then and I would really love to have the CD. Cara Mia was one of his best.

When you lose the one you love,

I remember this song from the 50's and would like to add it in cd form to my collection. The wonderful voice of David Whitfield singing that song has stayed with me for these past forty years. That alone is a testimonial. I just started to search this area for it and hope I can find it.

I have listened to this alblum on a record for many years. He has the orchestra of Montavoni playing behind him in several cuts. His voice is very similar to Mario Lanza and it to is crystal clear. I would very much like to find this CD

Popular balladeer in fifties Britain,
By
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
While America had Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Perry Como, Britain had its equivalent singers including Ronnie Hilton and David Whitfield.
David had eleven UK top ten hits between 1953 and 1957, two of which made number one. He had eight other UK hits, the last being I believe, which just made the bottom of the charts for one week in 1960. By that time, rock'n'roll had taken over and few people cared about David's singles but he had already made plenty of great music for future generations of fans to enjoy. This is the first of three volumes but the majority of David's big hits are here and the remaining hits are on volume 2. David's first number one was Answer me, which had to compete with a rival version by Frankie Laine. Frankie's version spent more weeks at nimber one than David's though there was one week where they were joint number one. Barbara Dickson covered the song in the seventies and had a UK top ten hit with it and, as far as most Brits are concerned, it has now become her song. David's second and biggest number one hit was Cara Mia, on which he was supported by Mantonavi and his orchestra. It spent ten weeks at the top in 1954 and also made the American top ten - very rare for a British record in those days. David's other UK top ten hits on this album are Rags to riches, The book, Santo Natale, Everywhere, When you lose the one you love, My September love and Adoration waltz. With all those big hits, a minor hit (I believe) and several other great songs, this provides an excellent introduction to David's music.

A voice that charms and feels with class-heartwarming songs.,

David Whitfield has a voice quality that is so appealing. I heard the song Answer Me on a radio station recently and recognized his voice. I had forgotten about this album, and want to order the CD, please. No one sings the songs like he did. If I remember correctly this album came out in the late 50's.
