Could've been better,

This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
Most of the tracks on here are classics but a few of them are weird choices. Against All Odds is an okay song but it's definitely not of one Death Row's greatest tracks. It should've been replaced with 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted. I think Suge chose this one just because Tupac disses Dre and Puffy in it. California Love (remix) has a better beat than the original (in my opinion) but it's too long. It's about six and a half minutes. Ambitionz Az A Ridah is one of my favorite Tupac songs of all time so I'm glad it was included. There should've been another Dre track though, like Lil' Ghetto Boy. They included the classics like Nuthin' But a G Thang, Let Me Ride, Gin & Juice, What's My Name, Afro Puffs, Regulate (which was on the Above the Rim soundtrack), and What Would U Do. I don't think Let's Play House is that great a track. Cyco-Lic-No would've been a better choice off the Dogg Food album. Also the order of the tracks is weird. The album should've opened with Nuthin' But a G thang and a couple more tracks from their classic era rather than open with a song right when their downfall started. Compared to Death Row's Greatest Hits, released in 1996, this album makes more sense because it includes songs from All Eyez On Me and Dogg Food and there's no filler, whereas Death Row's Greatest hits had a ton of horrible remix tracks that could've been replaced by the originals and other selections. But this album is too short. There are only 13 songs on here. I am not counting the Petey Pablo track, which is garbage. That was just tacked on to make this album seem new. There should've been around 16 tracks. Also, the tracks don't flow well together. For the most part they were just lifted off the original albums without any kind of editing to make them flow. For instance, the last word of the song New York, New York is cut off on here because originally on the Dogg Food album the end of that song really ends in the beginning of the next song. So when you are listening to the Dogg Food album you don't notice that because it flows into the next track, but when listening to that track alone the ending is cut off. They could have at least ended the tracks so that they flow well together. Whoever produced this album wasn't very smart. A 12 year old could've done what that person did. They just compiled a mix cd without thinking about the order of the tracks or how they flow together.
The cover of this album is slightly different from the one depicted on Amazon. Snoop's and Kurupt's pictures are reversed. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why this album was delayed. Originally it was going to come out in February, but I bet Suge took one look at the album cover and said "Put Snoop on the bottom with Dre and put Kurupt on top next to me and Tupac." I am certain of this. He wanted Snoop and Dre to be below him since he doesn't like them. There aren't any liner notes in the insert, just an ad for upcoming albums. I would recommend this album only if you are sentimental about the old Death Row days so you can relive some of the magic! But to everyone else, you probably already own the albums these songs came off of. You're better off making your own mix cd.

Disappionting,
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
This dual disc re-release of "The very best of Death Row" needs improvement. The dvd side contains 7 videos including "Regulate" by Warren G and nate Dogg, "California Love" By Tupac and Dr Dre and 5 others and although it is a great buy, it is missing one essential video on the dvd side, "Afro Puffs" by The Lady Of Rage. Rage was one of Death Row's most underrated musicians but if Death row is going to give us the song, give us the video, too. If they were to re-release this dual-disc with the video to "Afro Puffs" then it would be worth buying

Greatest Hits?,
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
i think this album is just suge trying to get death row back on the scene. it has some classic tracks on it, but where is 'Wit Dre Day' 'How Do U Want It' 'What Would U Do' 'Who Am I' 'Murder Was The Case' 'Natural Born Killaz' and many others that should always be mentioned when u talk about death rows greatest hits.
If you don't know what death row is about then just look at their back catalogue and you will see classic albums, too many to truly make a greatest hits album that would have every classic track on it. this album is just a money spinner for suge. i suggest buying 'The Chronic' 'Doggystyle' 'All Eyez On Me' 'Dogg Food' & some more of the back catlogue and have a classic collection of your own. R.I.P. Tupac Shakur

Good for the newbies,
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
This is a pretty well done comp. for anyone who's new to the west coast rap scene. However i already have all these songs on other CDs...so kinda pointless for me to pick this up. If u like this...Go pick up "the Chronic", "DoggyStyle", "All Eyez on Me", & "Dogg Food". Peace

"Very Best Of Death Row" Review,
By Crazy Jim (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
Suge Knight's Death Row Records has been on shaky grounds for awhile now. While over the years they have had a steady roster of underrated talent like Crooked I, Kurupt, Above The Law, and the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez to name a few, they have stuck to releasing both classic catalog material and unreleased songs from their old roster including Tupac Shakur, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and Tha Dogg Pound. They are sticking to the formula with "Very Best Of Death Row", their second greatest hits compilation (their first was a double-disc release in 1996). The majority of the "hits" were included on the first go round and the new ones are mostly from "Dogg Food", "All Eyez On Me" and "Makaveli: The Seven-Day Theory". There is only one new song, a rather underwhelming collaboration between Petey Pablo and Kurupt. It would seemingly make more sense for Death Row to release a "Volume Two" of their greatest hits series featuring the 1995-present period rather than going back and loading a CD with a bunch of songs that the majority of their fan base already owns. At only fourteen songs deep, "Very Best" is far from the CD that loyal Death Row fans have been waiting for.

Where Are The Rest Of The Hits?,
By Tupac (Miami, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
I had to give this five stars seeing all the songs are fantastic but there are so many missing. When is Deathrow going to make a hits CD without omitting tracks. If this is the very best of deathrow where are songs like -
How Do U Want It, Lil Ghetto Boy, Murder Was The Case, Doggy Dogg World, 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted, F*** Wit Dre Day, Tha Shiznit, Natural Born Killaz, Stranded On Deathrow, Pour Out A little Liqour, Wanted Dead Or Alive, All Eyez On Me, To Live And Die In L.A., god just to name a few! So with no doubt all the songs are great but it is just missing so many other classics that just can't be omitted from a CD like this. I am aware that this is another money making scheme for Suge Knight so he can eat more of these artists. I don't actually own this seeing I have all the albums the tracks were taken from. However if you like this music you might want to get this. I myself would recommend getting the Death Row Greatest Hits albums, however this isn't a terrible idea.

THE VERY BEST OF THE DECADE PAST !,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
IT IS VERY STRANGE TO CALL THESE SONGS OLD.
BECAUSE HOW MANY PEOPLE STILL LISTEN TO THEM TODAY. BUT IT WAS 10+ YEARS AGO DR.DRE CHRONIC ALBUM CAME OUT IN 92` AND SNOOP DOGG 1st CD IN 94` AND THE REST OF THE DEATH~ROW CREW ALONG WITH 2~PAC RULED THE 90'S WITH STRONG RAP FLOW & HARD~CORE RHYMES. AND HARD HITTING BASS BEATS FOR YOUR 15~INCH SUBS. THE REASON TO BUY THIS DUAL~DISC IS BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL HITS WE ALL KNEW AND LOVED.AND HAD GREAT PARTYS & MEMORYS TO. AND THE VIDEO'S ON THE DVD SIDE. WERE THE ONES WE COULD NOT WAIT TO COME ON MTV EVERY DAY.NOW WE GET TO OWN THEM. THE REASON I GAVE THIS 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5 IS THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE THIS A 2~DISC PACKAGE.DEATH~ROW MAY BE A RECORD LABEL GONE DOWN HILL.BUT THEY LEFT A PILE OF HITS BEHIND THAT WILL BE PLAYED ON STEREO'S UNTIL THE SUN BURNS OUT !!! {TONY~TONI~TON`E}/MELBOURNE,FLORIDA/[2~PAC R.I.P.]

Good compilation if you are new to Death Row,
This review is from: The Very Best of Death Row (Audio CD)
for newer fans of Death Row Records this is a Good collection.I always Respected Suge Knight's Business Savvy, but Dude been living off the Catelogs for years&bringing in Petey Pablo ain't gonna make you remember back in the day. Before Bad Boy Records,No limit,Cash Money,Murder Inc,etc.... Death Row was the Standard with Dr.Dre,Snoop Dogg,Dogg POund,Lady of Rage,2Pac,Danny Boy on the Hooks. that was Death Row.anything after 97 is patchy at best.

I don't think marion (suger) knight needs anymore money. they did an ok job. they have some classics by Pac, Dre,Snoop and Warren G, Etc but i think that this label has no more life left in them. they now have Petey Pablo who is well crap and thats about all they have now. So if your a big fan of the row then you should get it but if you want a real cd then get a 2pac cd instead,RIP Tupac Amaru Shakur.
