4.0 out of 5 stars Deee-licious
Overall a good hits package. First 7 tracks are from "World Clique". That's represented well. The next 4 are from "Infinity Within", and the last 9 from "Dewdrops in the Garden". I could have had a couple more from "Infinity Within", like "Runaway" and "I wont give up". Those are great songs and "Runaway" was a single I think. The last 8 tracks are good, but not as catchy...

The last 8 tracks are good, but not as catchy and dancy as the first half of the disc. Had this taken from each album a bit more evenly it would have been flawless. But there is no deee-nying that having "What is Love", "I had a dream I was falling through a hole in the ozone layer", and "Say Ahhh.." on the same disc, is deee-lightful!

5.0 out of 5 stars How do you say "deee-groovy"?, April 19, 2003
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
OVERVIEW: VH1 may play "Groove is in the Heart" on their "One Hit Wonders" show, but this collection makes it clear that Deee-Lite had more hits up their sleeve than most people ever knew. As consistently creative as they were undeniably catchy, Deee-Lite gets a chance to shine on this generous compilation.

AT ITS BEST: "Groove is in the Heart" will always be a dancefloor favorite, and rave-ready workouts like "Somebody," "Bittersweet Love" and "Party Happening People" prove they never lost their ability to get a party started. But "Heart Be Still" lays on the midtempo funk with equal energy, and "Say Ahhh," "Picnic in the Summertime" and "Stay in Bed, Forget the Rest" make a strong case for frontwoman Lady Keir as a seductive rapper. And no matter what incarnation they try on, Lady Keir's lyrics and the group's thoughtful production are constants.

AT ITS WORST: "I Had a Dream I Was Falling Through a Hole in the Ozone Layer" offers a slow-burning funk groove, but the sudden shift to a waltz time signature interrupts the flow. A similar distraction mars "Bring Me Your Love"; and as the only ballad on the collection, "Love is Everything" sticks out.

OVERALL: Those only familiar with "Groove is in the Heart" will be pleasantly surprised to discover the many sides and talents of Deee-Lite.

Oh, boy! I miss this group soooo much! This is the best 90's house group in the world. I remember getting "World Clique" for x-mas back in 1990, I was hooked with Lady Kier. This is their greatest hits. Is good, the only songs that I think should be in the copilation are "Runaway" and "Rubber Lover". If I had one wish in my life it would be to hear a cd with new material from Deee-lite. :) Miss you guys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing a gem, but good nonetheless...., May 3, 2005

I cant believe RUNAWAY is missing!?!!? It was the first single from their 2nd album,Infinity Within, which isnt really represented much on here anyway.
Most of the excellent tracks from World Clique are on here. I was kinda hoping they would have remastered some of the tracks to bring out the bass or make em sound alittle bit fresher but, you cant have it all...
Its a good best of. Its not getting 5 stars for leaving out RUNAWAY...not sure why. I think it might have been their last more successful single release.
Nice liner notes...lotsa cool pics...and a biography...

4.0 out of 5 stars i agree, not so greatest hits, February 28, 2002
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
the previous reviewer is correct, this collection is missing some great songs. if you're a casual listener or just want their big hit "Groove is in the Heart"(now featured in a commercial), then this release should do(cool cd cover). but be warned, you'll miss out on great songs like "Try Me On...I'm Very You", "Smile On", "When You Told Me You Loved Me", and my favorite and imo their best song "Fuddy Duddy Judge". the last two are funky, hip, dance-type numbers you should definitely check out! better to stock up on their 3 cd's than this hits collection, but you can skip their bland sampladelics/relics drum 'n bass/instrumental remix cd, that one kinda blew. ok, here goes:

World Clique: A(great debut, sounds dated now, but it was retro- sounding anyway...)
Infinity Within: B(so-so effort, but has some standout songs, including their masterpiece "Fuddy Duddy Judge")
Dewdrops in the Garden: A(almost like a continuous mix cd, underrated, consistently good throughout but with less standouts than say WC).

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent (but not perfect) summation of the band's run!, February 26, 2009

Deee-lite -- (originally) the trio of Lady Kier, Supa DJ Dmitri and Jungle DJ Towa Towa -- were vastly influential. A fixture in New York's underground dance scene years before catching the attention to the world-at-large, the group successfully brought DJ club culture to the fore. "The Very Best of Deee-lite" succeeds in giving a temporal view of the band's evolution -- to the casual admirer at least -- but fails at giving nostalgic club-goers a more substantive fix.

Sure -- classics like "Groove is in the Heart", "Good Beat", "Power of Love" and "Pussycat Meow" are here, but they appear in their highly minimal album versions. No twelve inches or special mixes are included for good measure. Both "Power of Love" and "Good Beat" both appeared to the public in remixed form -- remixes that should've been included in this compilation. And -- for some reason -- "Runaway" was deleted altogether.

All things considered, "The Very Best of..." is a good summation (not necessarily a starting point) for the casual fan, but more ardent enthusiasts should collect all the albums and hunt for the now rare and deleted CD-singles.

This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Great CD, Deee-lite was the first dance-house music I heard and fell in love with, its got hits from the ultimate dance album World Clique and Dew drops. This group came and left too quickly, but this CD rocks. Great service, great packaging, right on time. I recommend this seller and product to all you dance music lovers. Cheers!!
