What a performer!

Eddie Cantor was one of the great entertainers of the first half of the twentieth century - with a career that spanned vaudeville, Broadway, movies, radio, records, and television. As this CD amply shows, it's high time that Eddie Cantor be re-discovered.

Second only to Al Jolson, Eddie Cantor was Mr. Entertainment to millions of Americans. And the songs he introduced! Mandy, If You Knew Susie Like I Know Susie, Margie, Ida Sweet As Apple Cider, Yes Sir! That's My Baby, Dinah, Ma He's Making Eyes At Me, How Ya Gonna Keep 'Em Down On The Farm, and (probably his most enduring hit) Makin' Whoopee. They're all here in excellent recordings from the thirties and forties.

Now all we have to do is bring out some of his movie hits on DVD!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Makin Whoopee' can be pure pleasure, January 8, 2007
Eddie Cantor introduced and made known some of the great classics of the American songbook. He was best at the peppy stuff, the energetic fastmoving lyrics that somehow completely fit in with the spirit of an optimistic, fast- moving progress- making Ameerica.

'Jeepers creepers where'd ya get those peepers, jeepers creepers where'd ya get those eyes?'

'Another bride, another groom. Another sunny honey moon. Another season. Another reason, for making Whoopee'.

'Mandy there's a minister Handy , and it sure would be dandy'

Cantor was a tremendous stage presence whose dancing and singing were pure entertainment.

I do not know how his music will sound to young people. But to those of us who grew up with the stuff listening to it is pure pleasure.
