Great introduction to Ernest's music,
By
This review is from: Very Best Of (Audio CD)
Ernest Tubb was one of the earliest superstars of country music. Unlike his friend Red Foley whose voice had pop crossover appeal, Ernest had a voice that was pure country, yet Ernest had hits in the American pop charts because the songs were of such great quality.
This compilation contains some of the best of his Decca recordings, although a single CD cannot possibly be comprehensive as Ernest was a major country star from the forties to the sixties. Here you will find some of the songs for which Ernest is best remembered including Walking the floor over you, Soldier's last letter, Filipino baby, Let's say goodbye like we said hello, Have you ever been lonely have you ever been blue, Slipping around, Blue Christmas, Waltz across Texas and I love you because. Ernest also recorded plenty of duets, especially with Rod Foley. Among their duet hits were Goodnight Irene and Tennessee border #2. Ernest also recorded two songs with the Andrews sisters (I'm biting my fingernails and thinking of you, Don't rob another man's castle), of which the fist is featured here. In the sixties, Ernest recorded three duet albums with Loretta Lynn, represented here by Mr and Mrs Used to be. More comprehensive collections of Ernest's music are available but if you just want a single CD, this will suit you ideally as it contains all the essentials.
