Editorial Reviews

Subtitled: Lover Of Life, Singer Of Songs. 2006 digitally remastered collection of solo recordings by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury, celebrating what would have been his 60th birthday. Features tracks taken from his albums Mr. Bad Guy (1985) and Barcelona (1988), both sides of his 1973 Larry Lurex single plus 'Love Kills', his contribution to the Metropolis soundtrack, and more. Most of the tracks featured here are the original album and/or single versions of these outstanding solo recordings as opposed to the posthumous remixes that have been released time and time again since his untimely death in 1991. 19 tracks total including 'The Great Pretender', 'Living On My Own', 'Made In Heaven' and more. EMI.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, October 5, 2006
It amazes me that they even tried to release a GH for Freddie. He only released two albums and a handful of singles. However, it's a pretty good collection for Freddie fans, but it is marred by too many remixes. I would suggest the following tracks:

I Can Hear Music
Goin' Back
Made in Heaven (I prefer the version done with Queen)
I Was Born to Love You (same as above)
Foolin' Around (Original version)
Your Kind of Lover
Mr. Bad Guy (the version from "The Great Pretender")
There Must Be More to Life Than This
Living on my Own (ORIGINAL version)
Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow
Barcelona
Guide Me Home
How Can I Go On
Excercises in Free Love
New York (demo)
The Great Pretender (the guitar version from "The Great Pretender")
Time ("The Great Pretender" version)
In My Defence
Guide Me Home (performed by Thierry Lang)

That's just my opinion, though.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sample of Mercury's solo work, November 19, 2006
By
A very good compilation album featuring a selection of the best of Freddie Mercury's solo work.
Mercury came out with a fair amount of solo work during the 1980's.
What results here is a must for fans of Mercury , and a good example of some of his musical genius.
My personal favouries here include:
the majestic and inspiring Made In Heaven , the hi tech Love Kills , the contemplative There Must Be More To Life Than This and Living On My Own , the offbeat Foolin' Around and Living On My Own , the smooth I Was Born To Love You , theatrical Mr Bad Guy and the magnifficent remake of The Platters hit The Great Pretender.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Gift!, January 11, 2007
Bought this for my Fiance as a gift. BIG QUEEN and Freddie Mercury fan so this was a sure hit...he said there are a few songs that are the same and remixed, but overall the album is played 24/7 at my house. Great buy for the Queen and Freddie Mercury fan in your life. Also could not find this album at all not even Best Buy! Great price too!
