5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY a DVD for us 3&4 year fans!
This DVD was EXACTLY what I was looking for! Finally a GLOW release on some of the girls I remember as a kid! I had never seen seasons 1&2 growing up so when I bought the earlier shows I was disapointed! It seemed like a completly differn't show then what I had remembered! If you are a season 3&4 year fan this DVD is for you! You can't complain about something that has...

"Best of Glow" sounds like the ultimate fan's dream but this dvd is far from it. Unfortunately whoever put this dvd together probably didn't know a thing about the show or consult any fans whatsoever. The main feature of this dvd is one complete 40 plus minute episode with Steve Blance's opening office skit when he was "commissioner", opening show theme, matches, skits, etc... from the show's fourth and final televised season. The "rare" bonus matches are also from that same era which is post- David McLane: Thunderbolt and Lightning vs Broadway Rose & Hollywood and a handicap match with Star and The Widow vs Mt. Fiji. These matches are FAR from being the best.

In all, the total running time of the dvd is barely an hour contrary to the description here labeling this as a 2 hour dvd. Here's what's lacking. 1) There's no update on any of the GLOW girls. They could have done a "where are they now" and interviewed some of them. 2) They didn't showcase anything or anyone from the first two seasons (however there are 2 matches from Season 2 on the Volume 2 Best of dvd). 3) They didn't bother making any compilations of skits, rap intros, matches...nothing. 4) Susie Spirit breaking her arm was certainly a moment GLOW fans won't forget 5) The GLOW games of Summer 6) It's missing the music videos "Nasty & Mean" and "Good Girls Don't" 7) No one from behind the scenes was interviewed in terms of talking about the impact GLOW had on women's wrestling back in the 80s 8) No coverage of David McLane leaving the show along with several other GLOW stars...and the list goes on and on about what this dvd lacks. The only small feature thats also on the dvd that I didn't mention is a scrapbook which is nothing more than old articles and photographs taken from the official GLOW magazines that were released back when the show was still on the air. I can only hope maybe Vince McMahon will buy the rights to this series and put out a decent DVD collection to truly represent The Best of GLOW. Having said all this I still recommend the true GLOW fans buy these dvds in hopes that maybe they'll see that the sales are strong enough to actually produce season sets and maybe get some of those extra special features. By the way those bonus matches on Volume 2 are: 6 girl tag team match with Tina (aka WWE's Ivory), Ashley, and Little Fiji vs Angel, Hollywood and Vine with match commentary by Sir Miles Headlock and Ninotchka. The other match is an awesome submission match between Tina Ferrari and Attache with commentary by Hollywood and Sir Miles Headlock.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's a Huge Disappointment, Ursula, January 31, 2007

Ursula Hayden (who played Babe the Farmer's Daughter) has purchased the rights to the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling and is trying to revive the franchise. As a huge fan of the show, I thought this was good news. However, based on this DVD I'm not gonna hold out much hope for its return:

Dear Ursula (because I know she's going to be reading these reviews),

If you want to revive interest in GLOW, this isn't the way to do it. You don't start by lying to the small band of hardcore fans that kept interest in the show alive. This is not "The Very Best of Glow." You really ought to have called it "Some Random Episode from Season Four"! It is not two hours long. Even with the "bonus" matches in the "features" section it clocks in at under an hour. It shows a pretty blatant disregard for the fans, if you ask me.

And Season Four? I know that these were your years on the show, but these were the episodes that killed the series! Market shows from Seasons One and Two, focus on the wrestling, lose the campy comedy bits, and drop any episode with the annoying commentary from Motor Mouth Morgan. Do that and you'll be golden.

Thanks for listening,

A rabid GLOW fan (Ashley Cartier rules!!!)

1.0 out of 5 stars GLOW Vol.1, December 22, 2006
This review is from: The Very Best of GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Vol. 1 (DVD)
Let's start by clearing up an error that this web site (and a few others) made. This DVD is not 2hours long as listed above. This is one episode of GLOW, which ran an hour long, and is about 45 minutes with the commercials taken out. Add in the two short bonus matches, and an advertisement for another wrestling video, and you have about an hour of footage.

I do think GLOW was very unique. The wrestling was decent, and the characters were pretty creative. The skits they did were kind of funny too. Some of these ladies were pretty hot. This is definetly something that any collecter of wrestling footage would like to have, but due to the short length of it, you would probably only want to get it if you can get it at a good deal.

I really think they should have put two episodes on here, though. Afterall, one of the main advatages to making DVD's these days, instead of VHS, is that you can fit more footage on it, without hurting the video quality. I'll probably get Vol.2 eventually, but only if I'm able to get it at a relatively low price.

I just received the GLOW: 20th Anniversary DVD in the mail today and I am VERY disappointed. I watched GLOW from seasons 1-4 and was thrilled when rumors started up sveral years ago about a new GLOW series. I think the fans deserved a better anniversary DVD than the one released. Basically it's a DVD of one episode from season 4, I think. Nothing new here. I thought an anniversary DVD would be packed with clips, interviews, etc. Unless you don't have copies of season 4 on VHS somewhere, don't order this. It's not worth it. Hopefully...GLOW will be released the way it should be in a season format (GLOW: Season 1 for $60.00 or whatever, featuring all episodes from each season). I know that fans would pay for them...especially seasons 1 & 2. What a truly nice and respectful way this idea would be to honor true GLOW fans. Please stop insulting our intelligence with low-rate DVDs of a show we once loved. Give us what we want...what we deserve!

1.0 out of 5 stars the things you do while you're drunk *sigh*, October 27, 2006

so yeah, my friends decide to have fun with my credit card while I'm drunk. Well I forced them all to watch this when it actually arrived at my house. In short......just awful

I watched WoW back in the day, and it was actually some what entertaining at times, but this Glow DvD is just plain terrible. There are 3 matches, none of which are very exciting. The rest of the DvD is just crap. Random skits which will make you want to gouge your eyes out and cover your ears.

This DvD is supposed to be "the very best of Glow", well i'm glad I wasn't into wrestling in the 80s then.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must for any GLOW fan!, September 11, 2006
This review is from: The Very Best of GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Vol. 1 (DVD)
It is about time GLOW put put on DVD. The other previous releases were always high prices and hard to find. This one did it right. Nice box, nice presentation and great action. I do have a few complaints: DVD is short and no season 1 or 2 girls. But GLOW is GLOW. And if you remember this show, this will really take you back. The corny, but charming skits are there. The bad announcing, which made it entertaining. Weak wrestling, but the girls are still good to look at. Babe the Farmers Daughter, Hollywood, can you ask for more?

I don't think you'll be disappointed if you get this DVD. Its always great to remember something you saw 20 years ago. And this is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, December 18, 2011

That 'Mama for Mayor' sketch took forever to end. Hollywood's matches against Roxy Astor and her tag match with Broadway Rose against Thunderbolt & Lightning are pretty good. I also liked the Mt Fiji match because she threw Widow and Star around like they were bags of garbage. Overall no match sucked in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Well...Not What I was expecting from Volume 1, March 24, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Very Best of GLOW: Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Vol. 1 (DVD)
I was expecting like the the early shows...but instead we get the 2nd group of women. the slightly generic rip offs of the original girls. I guess I should have bought the DVD that came out awhile ago with MATILDA on the Cover...This is Like One Episode... the Video is fine... but for Volume 1 I was expecting the original Glow.
