JOHNNYS SUPERB ARTISTRY AND VOICE AS EVER,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Just so there is one actually sane review of this product on here I will write one . What has somebody looking for another album got to do with this one - or looking for songs which are not on it ? ! ! - Or looking for ALL Johnnys songs on one album - wow that would be a long CD ... Anyway this is a wonderful showcase of now rare recordings many not found on any other CD . It is taken from Johnnys earlier work long before the era of " I Can See Clearly Now " or what followed . Here you will find huge hits from the mid and late sixties and a couple earlier than that . An unusual mix of covers and styles seldom found on one release . A bit of a specialist product this one ! - comprising plenty of Reggae but also Soul and R & B and standards such as "Somewhere" , " Love me Tender" , "Chain Gang" , "Country Boy" , and "Island in the Sun" etc all given a very unique Johnny interpretation complimented by an equally adept and surprising arrangement . An amazing set of songs from a versatile performer whose expressive and soaring vocals never cease to astound ! Only down point is that as usual the original vinyl still sounds better on the old record player than the new remixed and remastered CD does on any CD player . The CD is more convenient however and this is a good selection to have ready in this format plus I wish anybody luck trying to find the majority of this content anywhere else .

Compilation of Johnny Nash's classic early recordings from the 60's,

Thanks to Russell for his "sane review." The reason this collection does not contain tracks like "I Can See Clearly Now" is because that recording is from a different record label. Best Of albums often include the recordings from just one label, since they do not own rights for other labels' recordings. In Johnny Nash's case, these early recordings were on a different label than his better known recordings like "I Can See Clearly Now." To give a review of one star to an album because it doesn't have particular song on it due to circumstances such as I have described is not fair to the artist or the album. If you search on Amazon for Johnny Nash the first CDs that come up will have aforementioned megahit and the hits that came after. The songs on this CD are much harder to find, and in my opinion, are his strongest work. I'm glad to have this collection. (In answer to the other review about why he/she can't find a particular old album of Nash's on Amazon--it's likely because like many old albums it has never been issued on CD and/or is out-of-print).

What? A Johnny Nash greatest hits album without his biggest hit, "I Can See Clearly Now"? Odd...
