Great Early 50's Bluegrass,
By David C. Cummings (Mentor, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
This is a high quality digitally remastered example of 1950's bluegrass. There are great harmonies from Lloyd, lead and guitar, Kelly, tenor and mandolin and Haskel, baritone and banjo.Haskel's banjo picking is some of the best you'll hear. He later played with Lester Flatt's Nashville Grass for a while. While not as well known as some of the later bluegrass bands they were favorites of other entertainers such as Flatt and Scruggs, Ernest Tubb and Ricky Skaggs. I was lucky enough to have seen them perform live in the early sixties. Not only were they excellent musicians, they were very good performers, clowning around on stage and getting the audiance into the show. Their records have not been available to the general public for years. I hope this is just a start and the next volume contains some of their rockabilly tunes. This cd is well worth the money and would be a great addition to your bluegrass or country music collection.

Many, MANY!!of the so called "Bluegrass" musicians & bands out there 2day lack so much in talent & heart for the root and soul of this music that they have resorted to using percussion. Rhonda Vincent, Dailey & Vincent, Skaggs, McCoury's Band, Grascals...... yes, the headliner's!!! So, folks like me simply take our money & go else where; to the past.... late 50's. And there are the McCormick Brothers. Go! Haskell GO!!! This CD shipped to my house was under $13.00. And guess what? No drums, tamborines, cellos, snares, or brushes. Just good bluegrass music. The headliners of today are leading the youngun's of today into the abyss of failure. Remember folks; If it has a drum -it's called Country Music. And look back a few years at it's complete failure... This CD is FIVE STAR!!!! I cannot believe that I didn't find it years ago. Thank you SIRIUS channel 65 for playing the demos that brought me to it.
