At an early age I became addicted to Greek music, particularly Stavros Xarhakos. I avoided Theodoroakis because he seemed too 'commercial.' However, when I heard this album recently I was shocked. This guy is truly a master, with a wide range of style, which might be the cause of my earlier confusion. This is a magnificent cd, particularly the third cut, April, which is pure ecstacy; Beethoven at his best (Ode to Joy) is only second place to this kind of music, which is as much felt in the nervous system as heard. My only complaint about this collection is that it is entirely instrumental, no voice.

Listening to the instrumental version of some of Thedorakis' songs is so engrossing, that heavy traffic while driving to work in the morning is not upsetting. It gives me the opportunity to listen to this wonderful music longer. The only complaint pertains to a technical glitz where track no.7 repeats itself on track no 10. Track no. 10, (To tragoudi tis xenitias), does not appear on the CD.

Theodorakis is a sublime poet and besides an outstanding musician . His melodies are filled with the Mediterranean spirit ; the radiant charm , elegance , and joy of living is present in every piece of this unvaluable album .
Somehow you or anyone of us the descendents of the Western Civilization feel these melodies with special rapport because express the greatness and the energy of a land surrounded of glory .
And this special year in which the Olimpic Games took place and the Euro Copa was deservedly for them , you have not any excuse to acquire this CD as well for your personal collection or as a gift for a beloved friend .

This very well reviewed CD is apparently out of production and virtually impossible to find. After an extensive Google search (July 2004), I finally found that Walmart online stocks Volumes 1 and 2 and a few other Theodorakis CDs.

I love this CD! Its lovely melodies bring the Greek spirit into your house.
And you don't have to be Greek to love it. Mikis Theodorakis is simply amazing!

Mikis Theodharakis is probably one of the best Greek artists. Outstanding CD for the music fan or collector. Theodharakis is one who is defintely an artist worth listening to. Amazing arrangments, performance and probably one of kind. Highly recommend.
