Very Best? Uh, not really...,

This review is from: The Very Best Of Millie Jackson (Audio CD)
This is a collection of Millie's recordings for Jive in the 1980s & 1990s. It is nothing spectacular; there is some R&B, some pop, some rock. This would be the "mainstream" version of Millie; nothing provocative or explicit here. This is not the Millie "best of" to have unless one has all of her 1970s music and wants to hear something new & different.

Or, a better title would be "Totally Unrestricted, Vol. II". These jams take her from her Spring Records years--where "Totally Unrestricted" leaves off--to her Jive Records years. Millie J. had, thankfully, lost none of her nerve, none of her verve, none of the rawness, none of her realness in the transition. It has "Love is a Dangerous Game" (too bad they didn't put the companion rap "Sho Nuff Danguss" right behind that track) and "An Imitation of Love" both of which like I've said before in one way or another--folks were REALLY playing evvy where else while urban radio were doing Prince or Michael or New Jack Swing. (It kinda reminds me of how folks useta play those Redd Foxx 'blue' records way back in the day) It also have jams from one of my favorite Jive Records Millie J. productions "Young Man, Older Woman"--the title cut and "When Are You Gonna Tell Your Woman (About Me)"....What? Look, that's how Millie J. is. By the by, I caught her mid 90's musical of "Young Man, Older Woman" and had a blast! (Does anyone know if there's a video of that out?) Oh yeah--for those who may not have noticed, Baby Girl can sang, too.

Millie Jackson is without a doubt one of the baddest talents that i have ever listened to.The Woman is straight from the hip with her thoughts&feelings.ain't no fronting in her work.unlike Lil Kim&FOxy Brown among others Millie can not be duplicated. She is Her own Woman.Love is a dangerous game, her take on will you still love me tommorow? are the jams. She is so underrated it hurts.she alway's had her own bag.when she sings you hear emotions&feelings.

Totally Fabulous,

Millie Jackson is a unique and sometimes misunderstood artist. Her style, sexual inuendo, great sense of humour and unique vocal stylings make her even more interesting to hear. Long before groups like TLC brought no, good guys to trail with "No Srubs", this sultry voiced soul artist that has been throwing it down since 1972, was serving women stiff shots of sexual healing. Her music can help you in when bad relationships and can save you from sending a fortune on srinks. Believe me when I say Millie Jackson is the real mc coy!

Not perfect, but has it's own merits,

Loyal Millie J. fans know this is just crumped up studio stuff that we dont have a taste for but, I can appreciate her voice and conviction. Some songs come off as Tina Turnerish (which ain't a bad thing, really) however she loses her soul in many of these recordings. Like I say, when Millie or the executives try to sell her to the masses, she looses something very good about her personal style. I respect this set of songs but true to the butt kicking realizm of Millie J., there are other better and more entertaining (highly entertaining) collections to listen to. The Jive period was not my favorite anyway but again, it does have its merits. This is Millie on a Sunday when all I want is Friday Night with the Saturday break up thang!!!!!!
