4.0 out of 5 stars mixed feelings about this one
His original oldies from ABC-Paramount ("Diana" etc) are not on this compilation, these are the re-recordings from the early 60's. Still, they're good and brings back feelings from an era long gone with Sputnik in the air and Elvis in the army. And all the best RCA-sides are here like "Love me warm and tender" and "Dance on little girl",...

1.0 out of 5 stars REMAKES: AWFUL
I'm a casual listener and even I knew these were re-makes. They sound terrible. What an insult to package this is a way that implies original recordings. Another record label lies to the public. Hmm, time to kazaa these instead. RIP OFF!!!

His original oldies from ABC-Paramount ("Diana" etc) are not on this compilation, these are the re-recordings from the early 60's. Still, they're good and brings back feelings from an era long gone with Sputnik in the air and Elvis in the army. And all the best RCA-sides are here like "Love me warm and tender" and "Dance on little girl", except for his biggest hit from that period: "Crying in the wind", a huge hit in Scandinavia, Continental Europe and South America in the summer of 1963. Strange to leave that one out. And really, no compilation of Paul Anka is complete without "I miss you so", a real, true diamond from 1959. That one's on his big hits, vol. 2. Check it out, and enjoy. Wonder when they're giving us a decent compilation of his worldwide hits?

2.0 out of 5 stars Learned my lesson, February 23, 2006

This review is from: Very Best of Paul Anka (Audio CD)
I bought this CD last night at Best Buy and when I got home and played it was shocked to find out these songs are remakes. If I had read the reviews on amazon.com like I usually do I wouldn't have wasted my money.I felt I was listening to a live Las Vegas show. The CD case is not forthcoming about this. I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because the recording had pretty good musical fidelity. This CD will be relegated to a drink coaster after I purchase a CD with original recordings on Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars So disappointed, May 8, 2006
By
This review is from: Very Best of Paul Anka (Audio CD)
I didn't realize that this cd was not the original recordings, I know now to look at and read all comments. I loved the original sound, the original beats, this cd is what I call a phoney. I am so disappointed.

This is full of re-recorded songs, NOT THE ORIGINALS! I wish I could have given it NO STARS! I was so disappointed in this cd . . . I didn't know whether to give it to a thrift store or throw it in the garbage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Repackaging of the "21 Golden Hits", May 19, 2003
By
This review is from: Very Best of Paul Anka (Audio CD)
This is a repackaging of the "21 Golden Hits" by RCA, adding some of the materials recorded during Paul's stay with RCA. Quoted from the liner notes from the 2 LPs set "Paul Anka Gold" by Sire Records in 1974, Paul said, "I want to update them (his hits of ABC-Paramount era), I thought I could do a better job, because I was older but I was wrong. There's an innocence and spontaneity to those early things that just can't be recreated." From these few lines, you can see even Paul Anka admitted that these re-recordings cannot replace the original one. Recently Sonymusic of Japan has issued a new greatest hits of Paul Anka's original ABC-Paramount hits, namely "The Golden Bowl - Paul Anka's Original Greatest Hits" catalogue number SICP-140 (visit sonymusic.co.jp, for details, issued date 2002.5.22.). 23 of Paul most popular hits including the original and a 2002 version of "You are my destiny" are available. This is a soundtrack album of a Japanese TV drama using Paul's songs as background music. Look for this one if you want the originals or you can find Paul's oldies from his official website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paul Anka - Diana (Dance Mix), January 7, 2004
By
This review is from: Very Best of Paul Anka (Audio CD)
This is really good collection of Anka's songs.First his song I've heard is from this album. I was very surprised. I thought oldies are boring and for teenager in 21st century it was music from an "ice age". But Paul Anka changed my mind, maybe because he wrrited poem to Diana, but and the other side, all his songs (esp. "Hold me till the morning comes") were fantastic for me. I work as DJ and producer, so I made one DanceMix of his song. Thank you, Paul!
P.S. Do you wanna hear your voice in the Disco style?

"I just want to make you dance..."

what a brilliant collection of Pauls songs as he recorded them way back. When I first listened to it the years just fell away.I was and still are a big fan of Pauls and I am so glad his music is now on CDs. Paul is also a great song writer. I met him many years ago when he came to England when he first hit the big time and to know that he is still going strong is no surprise to me.This CD will please all his fans.
