5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic Gothic / Post Punk Masterpiece
This is a fabulous collection of material from one of the unsung heroes of the formative years of Goth. The track list on "The Very Best Of..." showcases the Lorries' entire career from their earliest singles to their later more avant garde albums. 3.0 out of 5 stars hi fi audiophiles beware
This is a great collection, but sound quality on this disc is kind of poor. I think a lot of these songs were recorded off old scratchy vinyl, there are pops and static crackle. It is good collection though, and there are a lot of non-hit tracks, but if sound quality really matters, you might want to get the cleopatra records compilation. These guys are the best old school...

This is a fabulous collection of material from one of the unsung heroes of the formative years of Goth. The track list on "The Very Best Of..." showcases the Lorries' entire career from their earliest singles to their later more avant garde albums. It compiles all of their most popular songs as well as some more obscure but equally enticing gems onto one conveniant long playing disc.

The band's psychedelic washes of sharp guitars, thick muscular bass lines, snapping drum programs, frantic rhythms, and deep dead pan male vocals earned the Lorries merrit in the Goth scene. But the band's unbridled energy and precision attack will appeal to fans of everything from punk to perhaps even dark metal who want to delve into the archives of underground 80s alternative music. The production is full, yet suitably raw, conveying the urgency and intensity of the early post punk scene.

From the pummeling mischief of "Hand On Heart" and "Talk About The Weather," the energetic frenzy of "Spinning Round" and "Walking On Your Hands" to the stark slithering rhythms of "Cut Down" and on to the playful accessibility of "Monkeys On Juice" and "Hollow Eyes," the Lorries will deliver. This is an absolute must for discerning Gothic DJs and for fans of the old school.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Shreds, some issues with this album, July 5, 2009
I'm shocked to find these on Amazon - it was hard enough to find the Lorries in the 80's in an alt-friendly southern California - did not expect to see MP3s of the older tracks here!

Highlights are Monkeys on Juice, Hold Yourself Down, Cut Down.

Like another reviewer suggested, these aren't always the best recording quality. The version of "Beating My Head" is absolutely horrible, which is a shame, because the original track had some mad drums/bass syncopation going on. And a note to quality control - the MP3 of "Hold Yourself Down" is another version of "Spinning Round" - and "Regenerate" is actually "Hold Yourself Down". It's actually the same on iTunes, so maybe the publisher messed up.
