3.0 out of 5 stars too bad it doesn't play on my computer
This video collection was great fun because it spans the entire length of Sheryl's career (up till present). You get to witness the changes and evolution of Sheryl's music and her look, which is delightful to watch.

It comes with almost all her videos (though I was disappointed to see 'Can't Cry Anymore' didn't make it), and has pretty good sound quality and nice,...

Yes, I agree with the previous reviewer who said Sheryl's live performances are best found on the "C'mon America" DVD concert, but the title clearly states that this is a video compilation (and a great video compilation at that!). Sheryl has put out some great music videos, and this compilation is a must for any Sheryl Crow fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!!, June 1, 2004
This review is from: The Very Best of Sheryl Crow - The Videos (DVD)
After hearing "The First Cut is The Deepest" on the radio I decided to buy Sheryl Crow's "The Very Best..." cd and I am so glad I did. I was introduced to a wonderful musician! The videos are okay though. The best in my opinion are "Steve McQueen" "Everyday is a Winding Road" and "Soak Up The Sun". A must have for fans...

If you're even a casual fan of Sheryl Crow's music, then this DVD is for you ... and if you're a true fan (like me), it's a must-have! Here is a wonderful collection of her greatest hits offering sound so superbly crisp and clear that her fascinating and thought-provoking lyrics are perfectly balanced with their musical accompaniment. I own all her CDs, and found the sound on this DVD to be remarkably pure and sharp in comparison.

My enjoyment of Crow's music was increased ten-fold by the addition of the videos. Crow has an incredibly expressive face and a lithe body; her songs are even more impressive when she interprets them stylistically. My own favorites are "If It Makes You Happy" which casts Crow as an exhibit in a museum dedicated to Endangered Species; "All I Wanna Do", her breakthrough hit which is sung outside an abandoned theater with people floating about in the night like hot air balloons; and "Soak Up the Sun" which was shot in Hawaii and alternates clips of outdoor sports and partying with shots of Crow singing on a beach under a palm tree. My personal biases aside, it's undeniable that each of the videos offers an interesting interpretation of the featured song's concept.

Overall, this DVD is very highly recommended, and worth owning whether your primary interest is in watching the videos or simply owning a crystal clear collection of the talented Crow's greatest musical hits to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, May 13, 2004
This review is from: The Very Best of Sheryl Crow - The Videos (DVD)
The only thing better than listening to Sheryl Crow sing is WATCHING her sing. This is a fairly complete collection (I agree with some of the other reviewers - if you're gonna do it - put them ALL in here!), and actually, very good quality. The videos that appear to be of poor quality were from her early period when she had video directors who, for some unknown reason, decided to shoot in black and white and/or out of focus, even attempting to make one look like old film stock. So any poor video quality can be blamed on them, not on the DVD itself. The sound is at least CD quality.

It's absolutely great to see these videos without channel logos, title/artist info, and artist tour dates, or upcoming events on the broadcasting station covering 50% of the video (MTV and VH1 have gone insane with this). It's also great to see the WHOLE video, not the "edited for time" versions played on-air. The video collection is arranged like a CD, in that the songs are put in an order that they hope will complement each other. I wish, for myself, that they had merely played them in chronological order, so that we could see the evolution of both Sheryl's music, and her video style - from the demure "All I Wanna Do" (the first cut of which was sent back by the label because it "showed too much of Sheryl's legs."), to the nude-except-for-guitar "Steve McQueen".

One quibble is that they "bleeped" the word S*** in "Steve Mcqueen". Now it wasn't bleeped on the CD, and it shouldn't have been for Home Video.

For me, it was worth the price just to have a clear copy of the extraordinary song, and amazing accompanying video for "Home".

All-in-all a worthwhile purchase, and about as good as anyone else's "Complete Videos" release. I'm just happy they finally released ANY of them on DVD

5.0 out of 5 stars The Videos, May 31, 2004
This review is from: The Very Best of Sheryl Crow - The Videos (DVD)
I'm a big fan of Sheryl Crow. I find her music to be very intriguing and interesting to listen to, she is a fine songwriter and has a good sense of what good music is. Watching these videos, really heightens the songs for me. My favorite is hands down "Anything But Down", which I believe is one of her underrated songs. The video is very unique and engaging, and unlike anything I've seen. The wire that is holding the two people together, the push and pull, really represents the kind of relationship she is singing about in the song. Not all her videos are on here, which is a shame, but it's a good representation. Other favorites include "If It Makes You Happy", which has Sheryl inside a museum in many of the exhibits. "Soak Up The Sun" is visually appealing, it was shot in Hawaii. Overall a nice DVD for fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Razor sharp sound, May 27, 2004

I had already purchased C'Mon America and really enjoyed it. Therefore buying another Sheryl Crow DVD did not seem necessary. However the price dropped to $11 Canadian so I thought what could I lose?

I am **stunned** at the sound quality. It is only a 2 channel recording but is extremely clear and rich. On my surround sound system running ProLogic II, this sounds much better than many Dolby 5.1 DVDs. My dvd player shows it is LPCM 48k/24b. Perhaps the 24 bit helps? Most of my other DVDs say 16 bit.

On this DVD there are only 2 or 3 songs I did not like. The rest of them I really love. There are probably about 5 or 6 of the videos I did not like. They are some of the older videos.

Several of the newer videos are really bright, colorful and entertaining. My 6 year old daughter really loves the "Soak Up the Sun" video. I do too.

The drums at the start of "Everyday Is A Winding Road" are exceptional. They are loud and flip back and forth between left and right speakers. Cool. I could listen to them all day.

4.0 out of 5 stars I see why Michael Jackson had her for a singer., May 30, 2004

To hear this woman's soul, listen to "First Cut Is The Deepest" or "First Cut Is The Deepest (Live)". I see now why Michael Jackson had her for a backup singer. She has the voice.

I bought this DVD through amazon.com because I have heard Cheryl Crow on the FM radio. I did not have MTV or cable so I was curious to what her music videos might look like. Being from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin era, I feel that this is a very good "best of album". And I have bought a lot of records in my time.

The Steve McQueen video is the best. It is an actual song/video made for both eye and ear at the same time. The rest are not. Most of the videos are made after the songs are long done and recorded. But not to conflict in my opinions, "A Change Would Do You Good" is a clever insight into Sheryl Crow's "artistic mind". It is not unlike in substance with "Anything But Down".

The DVD worked fine on my PC, which is how I watch all my music DVD's.

As for the sound, it is excellent. They do not get sloppy here.

For the final review: The producers spent a ton of money on her studio recordings but maybe a few bucks on the videos. The songs are the very best. The videos are not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retrospective of Sheryl's best videos, April 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Very Best of Sheryl Crow - The Videos (DVD)
This collection gets a good retrospective of sheryl's most popular songs' videos.Mising are the following
1. Can't Cry Anymore
2. Sweet Child O' Mine
3. The Difficult Kind, from (Live in Central Park)
These songs would have easily fit onto the space of the DVD, plus there is no need for 2 versions of "1st Cut is tthe Deepest". I still give the DVD 4 stars, because thes are really minor flaws, plus I got it for 9.50 at Sam's Club, so there'no complaint on the price.
Now to the videos. There are some good and some not so good videos, the early ones (i.e. All I wanna Do, Run Baby Run) look low budget and looks like they lack proper lighting, but the songs make up for them. Some songs have more upbeat videos, Soak Up the Sun and There Goes The Neighborhood. My Favorite has to be "Steve McQueen" for its 70s style and the dirt biking racing. A close second is "First Cut" for its great camera work and use of sunlight. All in all, some good clips others I personally didn't like, but still worth getting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good dvd, Missing some videos though, May 5, 2004
By
scbbc (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Very Best of Sheryl Crow - The Videos (DVD)
The picture and the sound quality of the video is rather good. Only things I dislike about the dvd is that it's missing some videos (A Change [Second version which IMO is much better], Can't Cry Anymore, The Difficult Kind [live with Sarah Mclaughlan], There Goes The Neighborhood [Live in Central park, this version is on the dvd that comes with the deluxe edition of The Very Best of cd], Sweet Child O'Mine, and the James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies video). The "live" video for First Cut would have been intresting to see if i didnt already own the C'mon America 2003 dvd (which is one of her best performances), I would have rather had one of the above (or all of) the mentioned missing videos on the dvd.

All In all it is a good dvd though containing most of Sheryls videos. Who knows maybe in 10 more years we'll get the missing videos on another best of dvd and I'' be able to rate it 5 stars then
