4.0 out of 5 stars A Lasting Impression
Stacy Lattisaw gave us perhaps one of the most angelical voices I have ever heard. This girl was simply raw from the tender age of 13. She could deliver a ballad like no other whether kid or adult. Stacy was the bomb. I recently pulled this cd from my collection and I almost thought most of the songs were recent releases. They are timeless. Songs like "Let me be your...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best with No Jump To The Beat!
Ok, first facts first; there is No Jump To The Beat!!! One of her biggest hits, if not the biggest (especially in the UK). So why call it the Very Best of, although there are some sweet songs here to keep a listener satisfied. And a beautiful rendition of My Love wins hands down. Had Jump been included I'd have given it 5 stars, but now I'll have to track down that song...

Songs like "Let me be your Angel" are still haunting and rivals any thing done by the current so-called "girl singers". This girl was the perfect picture of pure innocence while sing adult songs. Every song, no matter how corny was done with such fervor. I guess Stacy did not realize how many lives she was touching in those days and in my case it is still so. Just listen to such cuts as "My love, Miracles, and don't let me get started on " Don't throw it all away" which is a true anthem for the foolish of heart. In her career she did such 60's cover songs as "Love on a two-way street" and "Hey There Lonely Boy" both done very well. But my favorites have got to be "Every Drop of your Love" and "Let me take you down" which were pulled from her Motown days. Stacy is almost like a tigeress when pour at these two. She is both raw and seductive without being sleazy. Word has it that Stacy was disenchanted with the music industry and just wanted to live a "clean Christian life" I would take Christ any day too, but boy do I miss this gal. She probably would have been "like dynamite".

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of Who? Where Is She Now?, September 30, 2004
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
From beginning to end, this gives older Stacy Lattisaw fans something to remember and new fans something to cherish. Stacy Lattisaw came at a time when there weren't many young solo R&B/Pop stars. The little powerhouse was a force to be reckoned with in her day, boasting a soulful and pristine voice full of emotion. Whoever decided to compile this timeless collection did a good thing - may God bless you! I was so elated to stumble upon this CD, price was not an issue. I knew I had to have it in my collection! Get yours!

However, I have two questions: Where is she now? Can we have her back?

I grew up as a teenager listening to Stacy Lattisaw and I knew then she was special. Her music makes you feel what is inside here heart. Her music was real music, just the way it was meant to be sang. Her rich voice and flowing sounds inundates the listener with harmonic melodies. This is a must have for all Stacy Lattisaw fans. Stacy is the best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Young Lovable Lattisaw, August 18, 2004

This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
Before Britney, before Brandy, or Monica, Stacy Lattisaw was singing her way into teen hearts, with such hits as, Let Me Be Your Angel, Love on a Two Way Street, Miracles, Jump to the Beat, Nail It to the Wall, and many more R&B Hits.

This Very Best of Stacy Lattisaw, lacks a few of her radio recognizable hits, such as Block Party, and her duets with Johnny Gill, Howard Hewitt, and Kathy Sledge, but it is still a great collection.

I got to meet Stacy Lattisaw, and Johnny Gill, via an interview, during her Perfect Combination Years, and she was an incredible young lady, with a personality to boot... She never showed any pretense or conceit, and was very down to earth...

This album, for those who aren't familiar with her, show her incredible voice, plus talent... Truly she has been unrated and forgotten with time, but her songs, will live on in my heart forever... She made my teen years, and growing up with her, on the radion was a blessing, it is just a shame she stopped singing. Her last album What You Need, on Motown, displayed a voice that was just booming... I truly wish she would release a new album, because I would love to here her sing one last time... She was truly underrated in her time, and deserves recognition, for being a true teen idol and icon, of the early eighties... Supreme Stacy Lattisaw will always be Number #1, in my book of memories...

4.0 out of 5 stars The epitome of true talent!, March 13, 2004

This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
It's not very often that I write reviews about any artist but there was no way I could pass up the opprortunity to talk about one of the most underrated artist of out time!

- If you look on the web, you won't find too much about her other than her being raised in Washington D.C. and discovering Johnny Gill ( who later became a member of New Edition and LSG) but in a day where most of our music consists of diminishing, insulting and degrading women and the love that could possibly coexist between the sexes, Stacey Lattisaw is definitely one of the artists that brings small smiles to the faces of teens from the 70's and 80's. In fact, she is one of our best held memories. She symbolizes the days when artists didn't use off-balance and hyper active tracks, dance routines and a team of engineers to make them sound good but relied on their own vocal skills and immeasurable talent. She's one of our last remnants of the days when artists weren't afraid to sing about untainted, often complicated but pure and undeniable love. She practically took us from the playpen to puberty in the nicest way possible.

Her talent is evident on tracks such as 'Miracles' and duets like 'Perfect Combination' with Johnny Gill. But when this 15-year-old powerhouse even did justice to remake such as "Hey There Lonely Boy'(a stylistics remake of ' Hey There Lonely Girl') and ' Love On A Two Way Street' there's no way to deny that she is strictly talent - There's no touchups on her vocals - it's just pure Stacy! And who can forget when Stacey even went so far as to rap on her album (Attack of the Name Game) which was unprecedented considering the fact that rap had barely made its mark by then? No one could tell me that her whole album, her voice and her style was not FRESH / tyte back then!

So no matter whether you are the man who remembers just how cute Stacy was and how she made you feel like she was singing only to you or the woman who wants to remember the time in her life when she was going from little girl to woman, you will enjoy this walk down memory lane! Even if you don't remember her, this is your chance to hear what real vocals sound like.... and from a 15 year old girl, no less! YOU GO STACY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This One's Got Em All !!!, April 4, 2002
This review is from: Very Best of (Audio CD)
I'm so glad that this collection is 16-tracks strong & comprehensive.

I'm particularly delighted with the selection because Stacy journeyed from the Cotillion label over to Motown for her last 2 albums. Whenever an artist does this, it can seriously complicate things when it comes time to do a "greatest hits" collection. My hats off to the powers that be for working things out ahead of time. They did right both by the fans & Stacy!

Finally, I'm particularly pleased that the last song on this album (which also happens to be MY personal favorite), the 1988 Motown release "Let Me Take You Down" (which was a NUMBER-ONE chart-topper for Stacy, a crowning achievement for her as a "grown-up girl", & her final charting hit) has been included with her earlier Cotillion work. Add this one to your collection!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stacy will always be the best, March 3, 2004

from the first time I heard her sing i fell in love with stacy lattisaw. we are about the same age, she being less than a year older and I was also a singer not on her level but her voice was extraordinary! My friends used to get tired of hearing her music at my parents house. From young and in love to what you need- i have them all including the single from the soundtrack to police academy 4 " dancing up a storm". Who has that one? 'The Very Best Of Stacy Lattisaw" is an excellent collection of SOME of her work but one thing I wish is for all of her songs to be put on a 4 set cd. I would definitely buy it just because I'm a fan of hers. I love Stacy, always have and I always will. I wish she were still recording be it gospel or r&b, I just love to hear her sing. She was the Whitney Houston of my generation. The Very Best Of...? Will there or could there be another collection coming? Let's hope so. Johey, The Ways Of Love, Personal Attention, YOu Know I Like It, Jump To The Beat... the list just goes on and on! I miss you girl and wish you were still recording! PLEASE GIVE US JUST ONE MORE COLLECTION OF SONGS!
