A Rockin' Good Time Glorious Evening!,
By
This review is from: The Very Best Of The Stray Cats: Rumble in Brixton (Audio CD)
I have been waiting for this since the night it was recorded - I havent been disappointed. It arrived on Wednesday and I haven't listened to anything else since then.
Stray Cats were truly glorious that night - from the opening shots of "Rumble In Brighton" (with the obvious but still too good an oppurtunity to be missed final chorus of "Rumble In Brixton") thru a few well selected covers & a number of Stray Cat's originals - Its just a MUST have. If you compare the songs here to the original recordings (Brighton, Radio, Strut, Rock This Town, Runaway Boys etc etc) the sound on the night - and subsequently this disc - is really raw and ballsy. I personally was never potty on "Something's Wrong With My Radio" - but on the night I thought it was fantastic, and listening again to this CD hasnt done a thing to change my mind. "Please Dont Touch" (probably most famous for the version by Motorhead & Girlschool) was another standout point. But the standout points are everywhere. Couple of other great Covers "Good Rocking Tonight" - "20 Flight Rock" are well worth a mention. The playing is exceptional - guitar bass & drums only, and yet at times they were making more racket than Iron Maiden (and thats remotely intended as an insult to either band). Lee Rocker was better than ever, Slim Jim standing on the Bass and pounding at the snare as if his life depended on it (yet still cooler than ice) & Mr Setzer, well! This disc also contains a solitary single new recording which is great, but there's no doubt you are just tempted to go back and randomly select any of the live tracks). Its a double disc, without the 1 studio it would have fit onto a single disc. It was a brilliant night - and this double disc captures it perfectly. No Stray Cats fan will be disappointed.

An incredible return of STRAY CATS, recorded in the summer of 2004 in London on their July European tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and the 50th anniversary of rock-n-roll.
This show brings you right back to the heyday of classic STRAY CAT shows, and after all these year these guys really sound great together. The 2 cd set is filled with all the great STRAY CAT songs you've come to love: Rock This Town, Stray Cat Strut, Rumble in Brighton, (She's) Sexy + 17, Runaway Boys, I Won't Stand In Your Way, etc. Plus, some great old time covers like Sleepwalk, My Baby Left Me, Good Rocking Tonight, Twenty Flight Rock, etc. They've Included a brand new studio track: Mystery Train Kept A Rolling, a great throwback song about the Sun Records legends, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, & Roy Orbison. Hopefully, a US tour will be next!

Stray Cats - 'Rumble In Brixton' (Surfdog Records),

This review is from: The Very Best Of The Stray Cats: Rumble in Brixton (Audio CD)
Finally! The much anticipated reunion of the Stray Cats. This 2-CD, 24 track was recorded at their shindig on November 9, 2004 in Brixton, UK. I, myself got to catch the Stray Cats this summer, one day after the free Ozzfest bash and I'll be honest. Had a better time at the Stray Cats. This title is sure to get your toes tapping as you fully take in the frantic opening title cut "Rumble In Brixton", "Ubangi Stomp", the memorable "Stray Cats Strut", "Sleepwalk", "18 Miles To Memphis", "Rock This Town" {still like watching the Mtv video}, "Good Rockin' Tonight" and "She's Sexy And Seventeen". Long live rockabilly! Simply a M-U-S-T have.
