5.0 out of 5 stars Gotta love the soundtrack stuff!, May 9, 2009
This review is from: The Very Best Things (1995-2008) (Audio CD)
Filter is one of a kind. If you like music that's full of talent, anger and love, this album is your choice. It's a must for a hardcore fan, and a good start for a new listener. The soundtrack stuff is excellent, and some of it has been really hard to get for years - awesome that it's available here! Also, the special edits are a nice little add to the package.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice compilation, May 7, 2009
This review is from: The Very Best Things (1995-2008) (Audio CD)
If you don't know FILTER yet get this to have a very good overview of what FILTER is all about.
The first 5 tracks are really best of tracks, soldiers of misfortune adds another one from the current album.
Of course you can get all the other complete albums of the past - it is really worth it.

I highly recommend this album to any fan of Filter - from the casual listener to the diehard. For casual fans, this is a neatly arranged compilation of all of the songs you're probably familiary with, including the soundtrack songs. For the diehards, it not only adds to your collection, but it's nice to have all of those soundtrack songs on one album.

I'm not a music critic, but I know what I like - and I like their sound. It feels good on me, I could wear it like a suit. I don't listen much to the lyrics, so I can't comment much on that. But, I dig their sound! So there you have it.

Filter isn't really a top band of mine, but I still think they're underrated. I'm sure even people in the alternative crowd think of them as a one or two hit wonder. This collection should impress those people. "Hey Man, Nice Shot" still sounds as good as it did in the mid-90's. Maybe some fans heard it on the Cable Guy soundtrack. Probably their most pop song was "Take A Picture", and I honestly still love it. It gets turned up every time. "(Can't You) Trip Like I Do" with Crystal Method is nice to have. Their cover of "One" is cool. No it's not Metallica's "One", but that would be sweet. I would have liked another song from the debut, maybe "Take Another" or "So Cool". No biggie. 65 minutes of Filter...filtered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, May 4, 2009
This review is from: The Very Best Things (1995-2008) (Audio CD)
This is an excellent collection representing one of the greatest bands in the history of ROCK. This album is a necessity for both new fans (Soldiers of Misfortune, Where Do We Go From Here) and old school fans (Hey Man Nice Shot, Dose) alike! Don't miss out on this must-have CD! FILTER redefined the sound of rock music, buy The Very Best Things and let them show you how.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Best Things - ROCKS, April 2, 2009
Thanks Rich and the Filter guys. You've given us a great collection of emotions, rage, truth, darkness, and hope. Play it loud as it's intended. Great new remix of "Take a Picture". Glad to see "Skinny" included. "One" isn't a favorite of mine - I'm too familiar with the original version. Miss not having "Cancer" included from Title of Record.
Excellent best-of album.

Though I don't think Filter's music is quite as strong as other bands in this genre, particularly Nine Inch Nails, this is a good hits collection. I mainly bought it because I'd heard Take A Picture on the radio and it blew me away. I initially thought the song was about having a terrible father, but after reading the liner notes, looks like it's about a failed relationship. I also always enjoyed Hey Man, Nice Shot. After listening to the album some more, I also really love Where Do We Go From Here? and I think Soldiers of Fortune is interesting because it reminds me of a slightly heavier sounding U2. Most of the songs on this greatest hits are listenable, they just aren't all great.
