5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny book about the vietnam war
Admittedly, some of the stories contained in "Very Crazy G.I." are strange, some even incredible. But the whole collection of short stories almost oozes red dust and dense jungle. Sometimes touching on LRRP and Special Forces themes, at other times delving into pure myth. Make no mistake: This book is hysterically funny, from a military advisor teams field trip...

1.0 out of 5 stars STRANGE BUT TRUE FLASHBACK
While reading this book, I had the uncanny feeling that I had been transported back to my youth, during which I had consumed large numbers of DC comic books. The only thing that's missing are the illustrations. As one who rates Jorgenson's "Acceptable Loss" as one of the best Vietnam books I've ever read, I found "Very Crazy, G.I." a major...

5.0 out of 5 stars A very funny book about the vietnam war, February 27, 2004
This review is from: Very Crazy, G.I.!: Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War (Mass Market Paperback)
Admittedly, some of the stories contained in "Very Crazy G.I." are strange, some even incredible. But the whole collection of short stories almost oozes red dust and dense jungle. Sometimes touching on LRRP and Special Forces themes, at other times delving into pure myth. Make no mistake: This book is hysterically funny, from a military advisor teams field trip with reluctant ARVN troops, to the story about an R&R trip to Thailand. Spanning most of the war and a wide variety of themes, it's a smashing read! As diverse in origin as the subtitle: Beaucoup dien cai dau.

5.0 out of 5 stars SE Asia Stranger Than Fiction, March 15, 2001

Every vet has "war stories" to tell, and Kregg has put together a fine collection of unique first-person experiences from Vietnam. Reading this book brings to the reader a full spectrum of emotions as Jorgenson shares some truly unique narratives from that conflict. Some of the stories are hysterically funny, some are heartbreaking , and a couple are downright scary.

It's a good read, and I'm looking forward to the next volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Book from Jorgenson, January 3, 2010

This review is from: Very Crazy, G.I.!: Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War (Mass Market Paperback)
Jorgenson has put out several great pieces of literature about the Vietnam War and this is another one to add to his list. Although not action-packed on every page, it is full of interesting tid-bits about the war that are humerous and comical. A must read for 'Nam Fan's.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Crazy GI, January 2, 2008

My husband is enjoying the book so far. Definite recommend for those who were there and for others who want some funny, but cold hard truths about Vietnam.

5.0 out of 5 stars the perspective of a non-Vietnam war veteran, June 12, 2002

From the point of view of one person who never served in Vietnam, Kregg P.J. Jorgenson`s VERY CRAZY G.I. is a great book. It is highly readable and very entertaining. The book makes you feel like you are a Vietnam War soldier yourself, wearing the very clothes (or: in the chapter on visits to brothels, not wearing any clothes at all) that the G.I.s did.
I would highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Feelings, March 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Very Crazy, G.I.!: Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to admit, some of the stuff captured in this book is hilarious and unbelievable which is something rarely found in this genre. But the book did have some major short comings in my eyes; one, the writing was brutal and didn't flow well. I am not asking authors to be gradeliquent in any way. But I got the feeling sophisticated words were avoided which added to the choppiness. The book heavily concetrated on the humor of war, how these guys were jaded and subsquently did crazy things. The field operations were not well described and in some cases not described at all.

Very Crazy, GI is not a book for everyone. If your looking for a serious battled ladend book then this is not it. If your tired of reading books that included too much death and destruction then I'd turn you to this novel. It paints the brighter side of war and is somewhat refreshing and would have been a lot better if more effort had been put into the text.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kregg does it again, September 1, 2002
This review is from: Very Crazy, G.I.!: Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War (Mass Market Paperback)
I think that this a very god book, a series of short stories about the vietnam war, one or two off them are perhaps " non-confirme-able", but who cares, just as long as it is a good storie.
I very much enjoyed the R-R storie to Thailand; revenge is to be enjoyed cold.
Also the story about marine SGT Henderson, that died and diden't
send chills up and down my spine.
Kregg has a way with frases and words, especialy his funny and self-ironic way of decribing himself and his conversion with all those who contributed stories to his book, he is very much the
Wiseguy he always describes himself as.

I can highly recommend this book to anyone.
Keep up the good work !!

1.0 out of 5 stars a trashy read, January 23, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Very Crazy, G.I.!: Strange but True Stories of the Vietnam War (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read almost everthing written about the war and this is unquestionably the worst. Its a big kid's comic book without pictures. The stories range from the mundane to the absurd. This book belongs in the "adolescent fantasy" section of the community library and should come with a warning; "suitable only for teenage males high on testosterone and low on intellect". It gets one star because of the author's honesty in admitting that many of the stories are unsubstantiated...you bet they are!
