Book Description

March 15, 2007
All the rage during the Victorian era, crazy patchwork is enjoying a renaissance. But, you don't have to be an experienced quilter to combine colours, textures, random shapes and embroidery stitches. Anyone with a creative spark can easily design and quilt their own original accessories and gifts. This book will guide you through 10 step-by-step projects that first teach a basic technique. As you learn each technique, you can make the project using your own choice of fabrics and threads - many can be completed in a couple of hours using a sewing machine or more slowly if stitched by hand. The projects start with a quick and easy-to-make potholder, then gradually become more challenging. They include: a custom-designed needlework case of coordinating patterned fabrics; a pretty tote bag of brightly coloured cottons, silks and velvets; and, an evening purse of silks and brocades, adorned with embroidered embellishments.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Adult/High School–This craft book is a model of helpful organization–clear directions supplemented by large and clarifying photographs, useful explanations of both techniques and supplies, and attractive projects. Providing instruction on how to sew patchwork, quilt, and embroider using hand techniques and sewing machines, the chapters are brief and focused on specific aspects of the work: preparing fabric, using such tools as scissors and needles, selecting and using batting, creating or copying paper patterns and templates, and making additional designs with embroidered stitches, ribbons and lace, and beadwork. A true beginner could move beyond inspiration to attempting a real project–a potholder is the smallest one detailed–while those teens who have confidence in their sewing will be inspired to follow the directions for making handbags, photo-album covers, and maybe even a full-size quilt. Crafty teens, and those wondering if they might be able to turn their hands to creating something substantial, will be well served by this volume.–Francisca Goldsmith, Berkeley Public Library, CA

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS BOOK!!, January 24, 2008
This review is from: Very Easy Crazy Patchwork (Hardcover)
After checking this book out from the library, I knew I had to own it! It has great step-by-step instruction for simple patchwork - "crazy" patchwork, which will take you far and help you complete even precise quilting projects once you master it. My favorite part is the section on embroidery stitches. It helps take a simple patchwork piece or sewn project and make it truly beautiful and unique!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to Understand, Good Information, May 14, 2009
This review is from: Very Easy Crazy Patchwork (Hardcover)
Checked this out of the library, expecting the usual "over the top" how - to book. . . .after 1 hour reading through at home, realized I had to own it. One of the best at covering all aspects of "crazy" quilting, and it fully describes best materials, fabrics, threads, beginning, finishing of projects. Very well done!

This review is from: Very Easy Crazy Patchwork (Hardcover)
For someone who enjoys sewing by hand and machine and making use of scraps of material this is an ideal hobby. Reader's Digeat is well known for its excellent products and this book lives up to that standard. The illustrations are colourful and help to make each step clear. It starts explaining the tecnique from scratch and gives all kinds of ideas, particularly helpful for those who, like me, lack imagination. With this book one needs no others to get going and making all kinds of colourful and creative useful articles.
